Dave Cohen Reporting
A group called Legalize Louisiana is leading statewide marches today seeking to change Louisiana laws and legalize marijuana.
Donnie Griffith, founder of Legalize Louisiana, says rallies will take place in four cities across the state this afternoon.
In New Orleans, Loyola NORML and Tulane NORML join the effort and will rally and march starting at 2:00pm at the federal courthouse on Poydras Street.
Organizers say they want to protest the prohibition of marijuana and rally in support of the "victims of the drug war."
They have encouraged people to prepare flyers, signs, chants, and any other methods to express their free speech and support of legalizing marijuana.
Griffith says he knows any attempt to actually change the laws is several years away. He says they need time to educate the public and raise awareness.
