Academy Awards Nominations Announced!

Every year the Academy Awards come and go. Brining the ultimate recognition in the form of an annual award to the best films. But if only it was truly the ultimate recognition in fairness and justice for all filmmakers and artists apart of the cinema industry. With the Academy's countless mistakes I think its about time we stopped caring. But its only up to us for things to change but also for the Hollywood elite to change their tune and boycott the Oscars as previous stars had in the past (Marlon Brando, George C. Scott).

But why am I so critical of the Oscars? Its because its taken me many years of constantly getting riled up with their insane choices over the years. It all started when Saving Private Ryan lost to Shakespeare in Love in 1998. It continued as I was becoming more of cinema enthusiast, when I found out Hitchcock never got a Oscar, nor did Kubrick, nor did Scorsese before the Departed. But it all came down to their decisions of the past years that have shaped my mind. Not giving Eddie Murphy an Oscar for Dreamgirls, The Dark Knight not getting nominated, and their constant policy of being controversial to who gets the awards. There insistence of choosing films with special interests, avoiding unconventional films and always recognizing classic Hollywood genres and stars.

This year was no different with the King's Speech and True Grit getting the most nominations. A Hollywood historical drama and an western remake by the Coen brothers. Am I not surprised by their choices in original genres and films that don't stray away from the norm instead films like Inception fade into the dark when it comes to awards season. When films that are unconventional and groundbreaking come along the Hollywood elite just pat them on the back an say good job but your still of a lower class. Who can forget films like Fight Club and the Matrix which also were never nominated. I could go on and on with similar films but whats the point.

But this years travesty is Inception not getting nominated in two specific categories. The Oscars get literally go boink themselves with their decision of not nominating Christopher Nolan for his directing and for the editing done on the film. Inception the biggest entertainment, blockbuster and one of the most thought provoking films of the year. With incredible ideas, deep scenes within scenes gets no nomination into two integral categories that made the film great. I was expecting no awards for the film but no nominations in those categories is downright cold. In Hollywood directing a remake, a boxing drama, historical drama gets you nominated but not for directing the most climactic, intelligent and one the most original films of the year. I can really say no more.
