The Fog (1980) Horror Αφιέρωμα

Director: John Carpenter
Writer: John Carpenter, Debra Hill
Cast : Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh

Day of the Dead (1985)

director: George A. Romero
writer: George A. Romero

starring: Lori Cardille, Terry Alexander, Joe Pilato

genre: Horror

After his two success in the past with zombies, Day Of The Dead didn't turn out to be the same. In script stage it was to be a 7 million dollar Gone With the Wind of zombie films. It happened to be 5 million dollars less, with an heavily re-written script that in the end was for most people too violent, too loud and quite too different to the beloved slapstick nature of Dawn of the Dead that most people fell in love with.

Day of the Dead deals with the zombie assault on one of the last military establishment still operable. In this establishment the government sent some military, scientists and civilians to study the zombie problem and try to reverse it. Sarah (Lori Cardille) the lead character is the most levelheaded of the group. Stuck down there with her are a drunk radio man, crazy bunch of machismo soldiers leaded by Rhodes (Joseph Pilato) and the lead scientist Logan or Dr. Frankenstein. But as more people die and things get tighter and patience wheres thin, they will have to rely on each other or die.

The theme of this film is the that, failing to work together is more dangerous than the actual threat of zombies. It was internal feuding and a failure to cooperate which led to the mutiny and total breech of the underground base in the film. The casual viewer might not realize that the zombies posed very little direct threat. Throughout Romero's films you see his views on how humans deal with problems and that there not capable of solving them.

The film received least enthusiasm from the three films. Romero's original vision for the film was ambitious but accepted a prohibitively small budget in exchange for the production company tolerating an un-rated film. If he had chosen to go for an R rating he would have had seven million dollars to work with, but aiming for an unrated, he was given a mere three and a half million. The original script was considerably more complex and ambitious with most of the elements and huge sequences moved to his fourth zombie film Land of the Dead.

After a dark but with underlined humor throughout Dawn of the Dead, Day became the darkest and most violent of his Dead movies. One of the main reasons the film failed also the fact that it had more talking and people screaming than the other films. Romero though despite the changes still furthers the evolution of the zombie as we see with zombie Bub (Howard Sherman). He shows intelligence and recollection of objects from when he was human, also showing emotions.

Day of the Dead despite its faults is a good movie in its own right. Personally i think you have to watch it over three times to really get into it. Because there is a lot of overacting, cheesy music and the overall tone of the film puts you off upon first viewing. But afterwards you have much more fun, enjoying the overacting and the screaming and you go with it.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

director: George A. Romero

writer: George A. Romero
starring: David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, Gaylen Ross
genre: Horror

This second film in the Romero zombie series is one the most adored horror films out there, undoubtedly the best zombie film ever made and one of my top 5 favorite films. Night of the Living Dead started the whole zombie madness and Dawn of the Dead just continued it.

Zombies are slowly taking over cities & towns. Francine (Gaylen Ross) & Stephen (David Emge) two reporters & two S.W.A.T. members Peter (Ken Foree) & Roger (Scott H. Reiniger) are running from the escalation of zombie invasion and hold up in a shopping mall. There they do their best to survive with plenty of food, safety and consumer items to keep them busy. But the Zombies are not the only threat to their lives because as this series has told us that the worst enemies are ourselves the humans.
As in every Romero zombie film, each one has satirical point on society of the time. This one deals with issue of consumerism of the time that was really rising, hence the mall. The ultimate consumer paradise. The irony is that the Zombies would remember the mall as a special place. I wonder why? They were zombies before they even were eating people alive. In many ways Romero was ahead of his time comenting on matters that still didnt have that much affect and dealing within the horror genre. This is why admire him and his films so much. Uplifting the genre with great character stories with a great background of social commentary.

Also another theme of Romero's zombie films with the social commentary/satire is the overall evolution of the zombies. Zombies were not just the villain but evolving characters that would change. There were still a lot to learn from these creatures and lessons that humans could learn from them. Slowly the zombies are now evolving into using tools, like some basic animals can, as well having some sort of recollection of who their were. As well in Romero's trademarks is the enlisting of a strong African-American lead and of a strong women lead which was kind of in fashion back in the 70's with films like Alien and Halloween.

Because its a zombie film its going to have enormous amounts of gore, blood & great make up effects. All done by legend make-up artist Tom Savini. The effects look pretty real it but will bother most people. Its not for the faint of heart. The only problem with the effects is that the zombies look kind of blue sometimes when their supposed to be gray. Bad lighting contributed to this. But for me doesn't ruin the experience.
The original music is done by Goblin & supervised by Dario Argento. It beautifully matches the film to give it a great atmosphere with some gothic tones at times. They had previously scored Supspiria that is one of the best horror scores. Also there is a lot of library tracks in the film that sound corny to many but add to the whole fun of the film. Anybody that is generally into camp wont mind.

A masterpiece in its own right, Dawn of the Dead is still considered one of the best and of highest quality horror films ever made. Seeing this film is mandatory to any movie buff. Blood, gore, social commentary, satirical/slapstick comedy and some of the best zombie effects. The film has got it all. It's one of those landmark films that cant be missed. Because when there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth!

Gore’s propaganda film had nine significant errors

J. Speer-Williams
Infowars
October 30, 2009

The Mainstream, Corporately Owned Media is Anything but Honest: Television, also, Slyly Promotes War and False Paradigms.

The Twentieth Century Fox Corporation is not unique in spreading propaganda, but they are rare in admitting it. Rupert Murdoch, himself in 2003, admitted that his Fox company helped to sell George W. Bush’s Iraqi-Afghani wars to the American public.

What a guy! Murdoch helped to sell wars that have made America a psychotic outlaw in the family of civilized nations, and destroyed her economy in the process.

Fox, also, promoted the man-made global warming scam with its popular TV shows the Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and Prison Break. Dana Walden, Fox chairman said, “The most powerful way we could communicate the commitment on behalf of our company, was to change the practices within production, as well as work in a message about global warming, about environmental changes, about empowering people to take responsibilities.”

“Empowering people to take responsibilities” is Walden’s double-speak for weakening people with new carbon taxes, all going to the International Banking Cartel’s World Bank, supposedly in order to save and clean up our environment. The truth of the manner is an entirely different story: None of the taxes we will pay to the World Bank will be used to cleanup our environment; all such money – that is not pocketed – will be used to help eliminate national soveresignties, and capture us all in a one-world government.

Moreover, the good chairman’s desire for responsibility has never extended to his own responsibility of airing some hidden news: 30,000 scientists signed onto a lawsuit, charging Al Gore with fraud, for his bogus video, “An Inconvenient Truth,” that so widely promoted the man-made (anthropogenic) global warming myth.

You might, also, be interested in knowing that 9,000 of those scientists suing Mr. Gore hold PhDs, who might not know that the global warming scam is meant to wrench carbon-taxes from us and cut our domestic production of consumer goods and foodstuffs, the very things we need for an economic recovery, or even for bare survival.

Additionally, a British court case found that Gore’s propaganda film had nine significant errors; but rather than try to refute those findings, Gore and the American press have kept the silence of the guilty.

But in spite of the billions of dollars worth of media air and space spent pushing the man-made global warming myth, their propaganda is no longer working. A Rasmussen poll, of May 2009, showed that only 34% of those polled still bought the big lies of man-made global warming, now called “climate change,” as it is becoming increasingly obvious our world is no longer warming.

And there are honest scientific organizations that are not afraid to report the truth as they see it. The Journal of Geophysical Research has stated, “Little or none of the late 20th century global warming and cooling can be attributed to human activity.”

The Journal additionally reported, “Our paper confirms what many scientists already know: which is that no scientific justifications exists for emissions regulations, and that, irrespective of the severity of the cuts proposed, the emissions trading scheme will exert no measurable effect on future climate.”

And yet, even today, our President Obama still talks of the dire need to curb global warming, by decreasing our standard of living, and increasing our taxes, all made to seem logical by the talking heads of television. And once Obama signs the Copenhagen Climate Treaty, he will have committed our once sovereign country to a world dictatorship, which will not only control, but own the economies of Earth.

But in a world of national-puppet leaders shines a noble man: Czech President Vaslav Klaus said, “They do not want to reveal their true [global warming] plans and ambitions to stop economic development and return mankind several centuries back.”

The Earth was warming for a period, due to sun cycles, not from Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The planet Mars, 1.5 times further away from the Sun than our Earth, had melting ice caps during the same period as our warming, but not from SUVs, I presume.

Even Congress must know how intellectually indefensible are Obama’s anthropogenic global warming proclamations, due to their own 2009 US Senate Report of more than 700 dissenting scientists on man-made global warming. And while perhaps not many of those scientists can pin-point what is driving the global warming scam, they know it’s not science.

All media driven eco-fads – over population, peak oil, resource depletion, and global warming – interestingly, all promote one solution: massive controls over national economies and the economic lives of us all. One could say that today’s environmental fear-mongering was unfocused from our real environmental problems on to fictitious ones, to gain more economic control over our lives, and be absolutely correct. The global warming/climate change/CO2 scare tactics are simply attacks on our prosperity and freedoms. Are there not already enough attacks on our prosperity and freedoms to allow any more?

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

director: George A. Romero
writers: George A. Romero, John Russo

starring: Duane Jones, Judith O'Dea

genre: Horror

To start out the horror reviews I decided where else than George A. Romero zombie series. First up is the Night of the Living Dead. Romero's first big hit that put him on the map. When the film was first released as with other horror films of the time, it was said to be too violent and that people couldn’t take it. That’s same they said about The Exorcist and Alien later on. Once released it became an instant hit.

The plot is simple and familiar to viewers even casually acquainted with the genre. The dead come to life, attacking the living in order to feed upon their flesh. Some survivors shack up in a old house trying to survive the zombies. But as they find out it’s not going to be that easy because they have to first settle their differences in time before the zombie have them for dinner.

As in most Romero films and primarily his zombie films he puts always a little social commentary or satire. In this film the social commentary comes from the character of Ben that is played by a African American. This is the first starring role for an African American in a horror film. Actually it was not intended. In the script Romero didn't specify what the character ethnicity was. So when he was choosing actors the best actor he knew he cast. By chance he was African American. But the social commentary that was in the intended was that how humanity cannot work together with simplest of problems. As we see in the film everybody wants to look out for themselves and save their hind. This is common theme throughout the Dead series.

But it’s not only the social commentary. Romero manages with b&w photography to make this into a really creepy film for its time. He managed to create a whole sub-genre of horror with the zombies. This was one of the first films to have gory material of people eating other people. To viewers now everything might seem a bit fake and cheesy. But you have to give these films some slack. They were low budget with un-experienced actors and crew. They didn’t have Hollywood money. So their efforts should be praised, because the end result whole lot of more of zombie films, good and bad.

Now a warning to anyone interested in seeing this film. Beware, because their are number of DVD editions of this film and versions of this film. The best is the Millennium Edition on DVD. The problem is that co-writer John Russo later on made 20 minutes more of footage, re-edited the film and put a new score. In so many words he butchered the film. The butchered version is called the 20th anniversary edition. So stay away from that.

Night of the Living Dead is a cult classic, the start of my favourite horror film genre of Zombie films and wonderful zombie film. This film deserves viewing to see how the zombie genre really started and the magnificence in Romero's handling of a horror film, that differed quite a lot from the usually horror films of the time and in a way differs a lot with the horror films of today by possessing a story and more importanly some meaning.

Only council-vetted "play rangers" are now allowed to monitor youngsters in two adventure areas in Watford while parents must watch from outside a perimeter fence.

The Watford Borough Council policy has been attacked as insulting and a disgrace by furious relatives who say they are being labelled as potential paedophiles.

It will further fuel concerns over a growing nanny state amid the deepening row over the Government's new national anti-paedophile database.

Soros: China Will Lead New World Order

Billionaire globalist George Soros told the Financial Times during an interview that China will supplant the United States as the leader of the new world order and that America should not resist the country’s decline as the dollar weakens, living standards drop, and a new global currency is introduced.

Asked what Obama should discuss when he visits China next month, Soros stated, “This would be the time because I think you really need to bring China into the creation of a new world order, financial world order,” adding that China was a reluctant member of the IMF who didn’t make enough of a contribution.

“I think you need a new world order that China has to be part of the process of creating it and they have to buy in, they have to own it in the same way as the United States owns…the current order,” said Soros, adding that the G20 was a move in this direction.

Soros said that there was a flight from currencies across the board, and that this is why the price of commodities, notably gold and oil, were generally rising. He also stated that an orderly decline of the dollar was “desirable” and that the entire system needed to be reconstituted towards a global currency.

“You need a new currency system and actually the Special Drawing Rights do give you the makings of a system and I think it’s ill-considered on the part of the United States to resist the wider use of Special Drawing Rights, they could be very useful now when you have a global shortfall of demand, you could actually internationally create currency through Special Drawing Rights,” said Soros, explaining that this was already in process after the IMF injected an allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) equivalent to $250 billion into the global economy.

Soros also stated that richer countries were already transferring wealth to poorer countries via SDR’s, with the IMF paying for the half per cent transaction cost.

Soros said the world would have to go through a “painful adjustment” following the decline of the dollar and the introduction of a global currency. Reading between the lines, he essentially threatened to kill the dollar completely if the United States did not get on board with the global currency.

Soros predicted that China would become the new engine of the global economy, replacing the U.S., and that this would slow economic growth and reduce living standards. Soros characterized the United States as a drag on the global economy because of the declining dollar.

Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus(2009)

director: Terry Gilliam

writers: Terry Gilliam, Charles McKeown

starring: Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole, Tom Waits, Verne Troyer, Andrew Garfield, Johny Depp, Collin Farrell, Jude Law

genre: Adventure, Fantasy

Carbon offsets are a CROC

Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty

At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen, this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed. Your president will sign it. Most of the third world countries will sign it, because they think they’re going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regime from the European Union will rubber stamp it. Virtually nobody won’t sign it.

I read that treaty. And what it says is this, that a world government is going to be created. The word “government” actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. The second purpose is the transfer of wealth from the countries of the West to third world countries, in satisfication of what is called, coyly, “climate debt” – because we’ve been burning CO2 and they haven’t. We’ve been screwing up the climate and they haven’t. And the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.

How many of you think that the word “election” or “democracy” or “vote” or “ballot” occurs anywhere in the 200 pages of that treaty? Quite right, it doesn’t appear once. So, at last, the communists who piled out of the Berlin Wall and into the environmental movement, who took over Greenpeace so that my friends who funded it left within a year, because [the communists] captured it – Now the apotheosis as at hand. They are about to impose a communist world government on the world. You have a president who has very strong sympathies with that point of view. He’s going to sign it. He’ll sign anything. He’s a Nobel Peace Prize [winner]; of course he’ll sign it.
[laughter]

And the trouble is this; if that treaty is signed, if your Constitution says that it takes precedence over your Constitution (sic), and you can’t resign from that treaty unless you get agreement from all the other state parties – And because you’ll be the biggest paying country, they’re not going to let you out of it.

So, thank you, America. You were the beacon of freedom to the world. It is a privilege merely to stand on this soil of freedom while it is still free. But, in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy, and your humanity away forever. And neither you nor any subsequent government you may elect will have any power whatsoever to take it back. That is how serious it is. I’ve read the treaty. I’ve seen this stuff about [world] government and climate debt and enforcement. They are going to do this to you whether you like it or not.

But I think it is here, here in your great nation, which I so love and I so admire – it is here that perhaps, at this eleventh hour, at the fifty-ninth minute and fifty-ninth second, you will rise up and you will stop your president from signing that dreadful treaty, that purposeless treaty. For there is no problem with climate and, even if there were, an economic treaty does nothing to [help] it.

So I end by saying to you the words that Winston Churchill addressed to your president in the darkest hour before the dawn of freedom in the Second World War. He quoted from your great poet Longfellow:

Sail on, O Ship of State!
Sail on, O Union, strong and great!
Humanity with all its fears,
With all the hopes of future years,
Is hanging breathless on thy fate!

We need to make sure our Senators hear us loud and clear. This treaty must never be ratified by the United States!

Belief in Global Warming Down Like Temps

Last week, the Pew Research Center released a poll showing that belief in, and concern for, climate change is evaporating. Belief in global warming has dropped from 71 percent in April to 57 percent; only 36 percent believe man is mostly responsible for climate change. Only 35 percent of respondents said it’s a "very serious problem," down from 41 percent.

This is after more than a decade of near-relentless fearmongering — er, sorry, "education" — from Al Gore, academia and Hollywood. They can’t persuade the American people to spend trillions for less than a degree Celsius of cooling a century from now.

No doubt the fact that neither climate models nor doomsday predictions have panned out, is part of it. There has been no increase in global temperatures since 1998.

director: Charles Winkler
writer: Eugene Hess
starring: Val Kilmer, Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson, Sharon Stone, Michael Biehn
genre: Crime, Drama

Why do films like these exist? There is no real market for them, or audience. Its just for the random viewer to say "hmm, it has Val Kilmer, Sharon Stone and 50 Cent, why not, it might be interesting". But the problem is right their that they aren't very interesting. These straight to DVD films are in a way a disgrace, a waste of money and time on part of both the filmmakers and of unlucky renter/viewer.

Two cops Andy (Val Kilmer) and Stan (50 Cent) hook up and become partners right after the tragic events of Hurricane Katrina. They bond and decide to run the streets together. The story is about the dirty and corrupt police station of New Orleans. How the FBI that is on too them and the police station's psychiatrist Nina (Sharon Stone) who evaluates the police officers and trys to lead in the right direction of truth and justice. The story doesn't go any deeper than that. The film is a hollow waste, that containes no twists and just rehashes old police movie plots with no fresh mood or take and is also not a good enough story for it too be connected to the events of Katrina.

From movies like this you can’t really have expectations, you just hope for the best. I hate the fact that there is straight to DVD releases. It's as if these little production companies know that they make crap and still keep on making them for the profit of rentals. I don't know if their profit actually lets them continue in this cycle, but it creates boring and un-inspirational films that only help the actors in my opinion in only getting a paycheck so they can move on to a more serious indie production where they will get peanuts.

Streets of Blood is not tragicly bad, even though threw every second of this film you can feel the nonsense ooze out of it. From the cliches, to the terrible dialogue, the simple without effort performances, the supposed stylized bad directing and the non meangiful scipt with no real drama or purpose, the film just cant take it self seriously for a second. But why not give it a lower rating for being this bad you may ask. I will give the film some slack for being a rental film and for its role as just try to tell a simple story. But as I always say, that is not enough. It's still a boring film. I cant recommend this to anybody for the main reason, you will not get any sort of satisfaction in return. Even die hard fans of some of these fine actors should stay away because you will be bored to death by the big name actors dead performances.

Paranormal Activity (2009)

Director: Oren Peli
Writer: Oren Peli
Starring: Katie Featherston | Micah Sloat
Genre: Horror | Mystery | Thriller

Trigun

“Vash the Stampede is a gunman on the run with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere without being chased and shot at. Every town he ever visits ends up being destroyed because of his pursuers, but miraculously no one ever gets killed. Meryl and Milly are two insurance agents that have been sent to find Vash the Stampede and keep him under surveillance so no more damage is caused. Meryl, who leads the pair, refuses to believe that the man they have met can possibly be the legendary gunman. This spikey haired, gangly, young man is extremely friendly, a pacifist, hates blood and suicide, absolutely loves donuts, and is a dork and a crybaby (far from a notorious outlaw). But there is more to Vash and his past than meets the eye.”
