It's been well known that DC has been pushing its most famous characters on to the straight to DVD animation scene. And they've haven't been doing a bad job so far. There initial efforts have only been of their top dog characters. Now there going pushing lesser known heroes out to the mass either through short films or sold packaged together with the DVDs of the other DC superhero animation films. Superman/Shazam is the first short DC film Ive seen and is actually my first encounter with the hero Captain Marvel as Ive still not read any comics with him in it. Pleased to say I wasn't disappointed..

When i heard that the comic book "Batman Under the Hood" was going to be animated, immediately there was a huge wide smile on my face that couldn't make me hide my feelings towards one of my favorite parts of the Batman history. The story of the comic book is dark, violent and full of surprises. But the question remained, could they move all these things to an animation film? Could they make it faithful to the comic book?The answer is yes and no...
The movie starts with Robin having his ass kicked by the Joker with a crowbar. Now every Batman geek, fan not to mention Robin fan like me will instantly recognize this scene. Yes that Robin is Jason Todd the second Robin where he died in an explosion after being beaten to death by the Joker with a crowbar (its a violent overkill that happened in another Batman story "a Death in the Family"). Batman rushes to the scene only to find Robin dead. Thats one of the worst things that had happened to the Batman Family and the one that would haunt him forever. The movie then takes us some years later where we have Batman being put to some challenges by a man with a Red Hood, where he is making his life rather difficult and unlike any other villain. He also seems to know much about Bats and how to escape him and making every gang join him. Who is that guy is the question? The answer is a no brainer with how the movie started. What I was sceptical about is how the voice acting would be. No Mark Hammil as the voice of Joker and no Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman. To me Kevin Conroy is hands down the true voice of Batman not to mention the best. Bruce Greenwood does a great job but still something is missing. In general voice acting is good and has no flaws. Far from it with the names of the voice actors you cant go wrong. Its the nostalgia you may feel and the comparison that you make when you grew up with Batman TAS but lets leave it behind and say that the voice acting is good!
What bothered me the most is that the film doesnt really follow the events of the comic book. Most parts are there but not in the right order. Read the comic book is my advice and you will see what I mean. Sure it has violence, action and the lines but the order they are in is a mess. For example Jason's suit is diffirent, the way he died yes is the same but they left out the most important part! How he got captured by the Joker and why?Well someone might say we are watching Under the Hood not a Death in the Family animation film. My point is if you have flash backs make them right.
By now you will think that I hate this movie but I do not. I liked that it was dark, that it had strong language and that was full of action. We finally also got to see Jason Todd in a Batman animation film and did I mention the movie has Nightwing in it? The finale is faithful to the comic book also I have to say. Batman Fans should definitely watch this one and Batman Geeks as well although i believe fans will enjoy it more than Geeks for the reasons given above. And yes i am a Geek.

What can I say about Under the Red Hood that hasn't been said for all the other DC animation films once again? It's climactic, contains drama and violence in a large percentage compared to the others and has an more adult themed story and that makes me want the rest of DC animated films to emulate this. The film does have its faults as every DC animated film had, but it doesn't shorten the fun of seeing Robin, Batman and the Joker duke it out.
Problems that I may have aren't major but are substantial for a animation Batman film to be perfect. Each DC film cant have Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy as the voices of Joker and Batman's as much as I would like it or as my fellow guerilla blogger G L. They were the voices in the DC animated Batman series and have been applauded generally by fans and critics as the definitive voices of those characters. Hearing someone else being Batman is not a hard task. As they just can put someone with a gravely and deep voice that isn't annoying to get the job done. But for the Joker voice it's tricky. Mark Hamill managed to be funny, hysterical, maniacal and down right sadistic with his portrayal of the voice of Joker. Hearing John DiMaggio in the voice isn't as pleasurable. He is a talented voice actor and many will know his voice from Futurama as Bender but as the Joker he isn't quite perfect. His laugh, his speech aren't just Mark Hamill. Of course somebody had to do the job and they picked a capable and experienced voice actor. I just don't think that the voice of the Joker should be a casual choice but a significant one to make a presence and not be a passing moment when his voice is heard. I just wasn't that impressed.
Besides my Joker complain the film just lacks the punch of a more epic and deeper story line, length time, drama and action. All the same problems of all the other DC animation films. This film is better than others due its high level of violence and drama that makes it more realistic. Also the fact that Judd Winick's dialogue here and there is quite cheesy and is almost word for word as in the comic dosen't help. But besides all that this is still highly recommend for all Batman geeks who I know wont miss the chance to see the Batman!
After not only fan demand but also small pressure from Disney, Pixar finally made Toy Story 3 a reality. Any fan of Toy Story should consider themselves lucky that Pixar made the film and not another animation company as it was initially going to happen. But now that it has all went well, Toy Story 3 is a funny as ever, packs more punches than action and adventure of late and proves to be if it a very satisfying conclusion to one of the best movie series ever created.
The toys newest adventure is survival. Now with Andy off to college. the toys place in his life is at question. Their fate is either the garbage dump or Andy's attic. Panic amongst them over their fate brings them to a daycare center called Sunnyside, run by Lotso the bear. There they will be in toy hell and paradise. Their future will depend on their friendship and the realization that Andy never wanted them to be harmed but loved and taken care of.
The toys adventure is incredible. Pixar outdid themselves once again in showing that they are probably the best and the most consistent studio out there in providing high quality products. The visuals of the film are outstanding and beautiful. The animation of the toys faces, people's reactions and movements are pitch perfect and look realistic and natural. I don't think the day will come that I will not be astounded by this company.
Leaving the film I was thrilled with the experience of the toys in adventure once again. Pixar had a good story to tell and did it perfectly. Drama with toys is hard to come by. But some of the scenes in Toy Story 3 cant have not made your heart pound hard for the fate of the lovely and memorable characters. Pixar is a company that knows what they are doing every step of the way. This is the company that managed to make us love a robot, a rat and toys and make us feel touched and shed a tear for them.
To conclude, Toy Story 3 is filled with glorious moments that never let you down. I fully recommend to anyone to see this film as it will be one of the best films of the year. The only fear I might have is of the future of the franchise. The way the film ended makes it seems difficult for a fourth film to be made. As it seems like a bad idea due to the trap of repeating themselves. But nonetheless to infinity and beyond!
Im going to keep this review to a short length. Ive already reviewed a number of Marvel and DC animation films and theirs not much diffrence between them. So saying the same thing over and over again is not worth it.
Planet Hulk is latest film of the Marvel Animation Studios and is a fun action epic of Hulk and his struggles on the planet Sakkar. Some of Earths heroes like Iron Man and Dr. Strange decided that it would be the right choice to send the Hulk away from Earth, before he does some real damage to innocent people. While the Hulk is in mid orbit to a peaceful planet, he wakes up to damage the controls and send himself to the rebelious planet of Sakkar. There, captured and taken to be a Gladiator. There he will fight Skaar's ruler the Red King for his freedom and the freedom of Skaar itself.
The film doesn't differ to a large degree with the original Planet Hulk story. Some liberties are taken with minor tweaks in the story. But as with all the other comic animation films the original stories are all of greater value. The liberties that are taken in the film are in some areas ok and then others just plain silly. The most sad thing is that the audience of this film and others alike is for children. So a 12 issue story is crammed into 1 hour and necessary changes were made to fit this time length and audience.
Planet Hulk has all the classic qualites of the other animation films, good action, very good voice work, mediocre animation, and minimal characer development. Dont even bother seeing the film if your in the need for a Hulk experience. Reading the comic Planet Hulk or seeing the two live action films are better choices.

Η ανθρωπιά και η έννοια της φιλίας είναι κάτι πολυσυζητημένο την σημερινή εποχή. Αυτό το γεγονός με κάνει να προβληματίζομαι πολύ για το πώς να μιλήσω για κάτι τέτοιο… Σαφώς δεν είμαι κάποιος εδικός, αλλά κανένας από εμάς δεν χρειάζεται ειδική μόρφωση ή συστάσεις για να εκφράσει προβληματισμούς και συναισθήματα. Παρά το γεγονός ότι ζούμε σε μια εποχή που όλα μπορούν, θεωρητικά κι πρακτικά, να συμβούν, με την τόση πια πληροφόρηση από την οποία κατακλυζόμαστε και την πανεύκολη πρόσβαση σε αυτή, ξεχνάμε τα βασικά. Κάποιοι άλλοι είναι εκεί, όμως, για να μας τα θυμίζουν. Όσο θα υπάρχει η τέχνη, τα πράγματα θα είναι πιο λυρικά και μαγικά. Και ευτυχώς η τέχνη θα υπάρχει παντοτινά… Για να μην ξεφεύγουμε πολύ από το τι θέλουμε να προσφέρουμε μέσω αυτού του blog, στα της ταινίας άμεσα.
Ο Maxείναι ένας 44χρονος, αυτιστικός Νεοϋορκέζος. Η Mary είναι ένα 8χρονο κοριτσάκι από την Αυστραλία. Τελείως τυχαία, ξεκινούν να αλληλογραφούν και να αναπτύσσουν, σιγά-σιγά, την πιο αθώα και αληθινή φιλία. Πολλά σκαμπανεβάσματα θα υπάρξουν. Το θέμα είναι αν θα πραγματοποιήσουν το μεγαλύτερο όνειρό τους: ο καθένας τους να αποκτήσει έναν πραγματικό φίλο…
Πάντα, τα animationφιλμς έχουν κάτι το πολύ ιδιαίτερο. Μια γοητεία που σπάνια βρίσκει κανείς. Δεν ξέρω αν φταίει το ότι κρατούν μια παιδικότητα κρυμμένη ή αναδεικνύουν μια διαφορετική πλευρά της 7ης τέχνης, αλλά παραμένουν παραμυθένια. Αυτό το «στερεότυπο» καλείται να ξεπεράσει το «MaryandMax». Και τα καταφέρνει πολύ καλά.
Ο AdamElliotκρατά το κλασσικό στυλ οπτικοακουστικής αναπαράστασης που συναντούμε και στο “HarvieKrumpet”. Πολύ ιδιαίτερες φιγούρες και πολύ καλοστημένο σκηνικό. Εξάλλου, αυτά είναι και τα στοιχεία που αποτελούν κομβικό σημείο για μια ταινία animation. Η δουλειά που έχει γίνει είναι άψογη και μπορεί να βάλει την προσωπική της σφραγίδα στον καθένα. Το γενικότερο «στήσιμο» μου θύμισε λίγο τον Αρκά. Στις περίφημες εισαγωγές των άλμπουμ του αναφέρεται χαρακτηριστικά ότι σε όλα τα πρόσωπα μπορεί κανείς να διακρίνει την θλίψη που προέρχεται από το σύνολο του κοινωνικού περιβάλλοντος μέσα στο οποίο ζει και δραστηριοποιείται το κάθε άτομο. Ευτυχώς ή δυστυχώς, το ίδιο ισχύει κι εδώ.
Σεναριακά, τώρα, δεν γίνεται να κάνει κάποιος αρνητικά σχόλια. Λεπτομέρεια στο έπακρο και φοβερή συμμόρφωση με το εκάστοτε νοητικό υπόβαθρο του προσώπου στο οποίο απευθυνόταν στο σενάριο. Πιστεύω, είναι αρκετά απαιτητικό το να σχεδιάσεις μια ταινία η οποία απευθύνεται αποκλειστικά σε ενήλικες, αλλά πρέπει να περικλείει την σωστή «ποσότητα» παιδικότητας και αθωότητας. Συγκινητική δουλειά…
Η καλύτερη ταινία που έχω δει φέτος και μια από τις καλύτερες που έχω δει ποτέ στη ζωή μου. Νομίζω ότι θα ήταν πολύ καλό να τη δείτε το συντομότερο δυνατό. Προσφέρει πολλά συναισθήματα και εντάσεις. Δυστυχώς, κάποιες λέξεις πολλές φορές δεν μπορούν να περιγράψουν ένα συναίσθημα και να το κάνουν απόλυτα ξεκάθαρο. Έτσι και η κριτική δεν είναι τόσο μεγάλη. Αλλά, γι’ αυτό η ζωή έχει αυτό το όνομα. Να κρατάτε τις χαρές, να θυμάστε τις λύπες. Προσδοκώ σε μια κοινωνία που κάποια στιγμή θα μπορέσει να εκφράσει αυτά που νιώθει. Να δείξει τον τρόπο που σκέφτεται, που θα ήθελε να ζει και να αναπνέει. Σίγουρα μπορούμε να το κάνουμε αυτό, αλλά το θέμα είναι το πότε. Πάντα είσαι νέος…

Ο Flint Lockwood είναι ένας εκκεντρικός νεαρός εφευρέτης, χωρίς πολύ καλά αποτελέσματα στις μέχρι τώρα δημιουργίες του. Προσπαθώντας να αποδείξει ότι αξίζει, τελειοποιεί μια μηχανή η οποία μετατρέπει το νερό σε οποιαδήποτε τροφή. Έτσι γίνεται διάσημος, και άνθρωποι από όλα τα σημεία της γης επισκέπτονται το νησί που μένει για να δοκιμάσουν τα φαγητά, τα οποία πέφτουν κυριολεκτικά σαν βροχή, με αποτέλεσμα η μηχανή να λειτουργεί όλο και πιο εντατικά..
Κριτική:
H Sony παίρνει την σκυτάλη από την Pixar μετά το σερί των τελευταίων εξαιρετικών δημιουργιών της τελευταίας, ελπίζοντας να κρατήσει τον πήχη εξίσου ψηλά. Το στοίχημα δεδομένης της ποιότητας των Ratatuille, Walle και Up φαντάζει δύσκολο, ωστόσο προς ευχάριστη έκπληξη μου το κερδίζει σε μεγάλο βαθμό.
Η ιδέα έξυπνη και πρωτότυπη, με τους σεναριογράφους να την εκμεταλλεύονται αρκετά καλά δημιουργώντας ένα σενάριο που προσφέρει αρκετό γέλιο, περιπέτεια, ενδιαφέροντες και αστείους χαρακτήρες με αποθέωση τον πολυτάλαντο Μάνυ, και ταυτόχρονα περνάει μηνύματα, έστω και με απλοϊκό τρόπο για την υπερκατανάλωση, η οποία ειδικά στην Αμερική αποτελεί μάστιγα. Γενικά απευθύνεται κυρίως σε μικρές ηλικίες, περισσότερο από ότι οι παραγωγές της Pixar που προανέφερα, έχει όμως τα στοιχεία που θα κάνουν και κάποιον μεγαλύτερο να περάσει καλά.
Η σκηνοθεσία είναι επίσης προσανατολισμένη στο παιδικό κοινό. Πολύχρωμη, γεμάτη σπιρτάδα, σε συνδυασμό με το πολύ καλό animation δίνουν στην ταινία κατάλληλο ρυθμό και διάθεση, τα οποία διατηρεί ως το τέλος με εξαίρεση 1-2 μικρές αρρυθμίες που όμως δεν ενοχλούν ιδιαίτερα. Δυστυχώς δεν το είδα σε 3D, και νομίζω ότι κάποιες σκηνές θα φαίνονται πραγματικά πολύ εντυπωσιακές σε αυτό, αλλά και στην κανονική έκδοση θα μείνετε ευχαριστημένοι από την ποιότητα της δουλειάς που έχει γίνει.
Τελικό συμπέρασμα: Το “βρέχει κεφτέδες” μπορεί να μη χαρακτηρίζεται αριστούργημα, παρόλα αυτά είναι μια πολύ διασκεδαστική ταινία. Το πρωτότυπο σενάριο και η γεμάτη ζωντάνια οπτικοποίηση του θα προσφέρουν ένα ευχάριστο διάλειμμα στα παιδία αλλά και γενικότερα σε όσους κρατούν το παιδικό στοιχείο μέσα τους. Η τρισδιάστατη έκδοση θα είναι σίγουρα πιο εντυπωσιακή, αλλά λόγω και του τσιμπημένου εισιτηρίου η επιλογή ως προς αυτό είναι δική σας. Αυτό που μπορώ να σας πω εγώ, είναι ότι θα περάσετε 90 ευχάριστα και χορταστικά, στην κυριολεξία, λεπτά πριν επιστρέψετε στη δύσκολη, και μουντή συγκριτικά με την ταινία, πραγματικότητα..

Μπαίνουμε σιγά-σιγά σε ένα νέο έτος-ξέρετε, αυτά που αρχίζουν από τον Σεπτέμβριο/Οκτώβριο και τελειώνουν πάλι σε αυτόν-το οποίο μαζί του φέρνει ενδιαφέρουσες ταινίες όπως το "Welcome" και το "Los Abrazos Rotos". Μέσα σε αυτή την σοβαρότητα, το βάρος και την κινηματογραφική ποιότητα που κουβαλούν οι συγκεκριμένες ταινίες, θα'ταν καλό να ξεχαστούμε λιγάκι με κάτι πιο ελαφρύ. Με μια ταινία που δεν θα χρειάζεται ιδιαίτερη σκέψη και απόλυτη εγκεφαλική αφιέρωση. Τέτοια ήταν και αυτή εδώ, το "G-Force". Η πρώτη μου επαφή με αυτή έγινε μέσω ενός τρέιλερ πριν από το αριστουργηματικό "Up", αν θυμάμαι καλά. Και, ειλικρινά, μου κίνησε αμέσως το ενδιαφέρον..! Πρώτα απ'όλα, όμως, ας μιλήσουμε για το θέμα της. Έχουμε και λέμε:
Ο διαβολικός κατασκευαστής ηλεκτρικών και ηλεκτρονικών οικειακών συσκευών, κ.Saber, προσπαθεί, μέσω της εγκατάστασης ενός microchip σε αυτές, να κατασκευάσει έναν "μεταλλικό στρατό" με σκοπό την παγκόσμια κυριαρχία του. Μια ομάδα, όμως, ειδικά εκπαιδευμένων τρωκτικών(3 ινδικά χοιρίδια και 1 τυφλοπόντικας) και μιας μύγας, εισβάλλουν στην βίλα του με σκοπό να κλέψουν τις απαραίτητες πληροφορίες απενεργοποίησης του σχεδίου. Ένα ατελείωτο κυνηγητό μεταξύ αυτών και μιας ομάδας πρακτόρων του F.B.I. ξεκινά. Μένει μόνο να δούμε το αν ο κόσμος μας θα πέσει στα χέρια του Saber. Το σημαντικότερο, όμως, είναι αν όντως έτσι έχουν τα πράγματα...
Σκηνοθετικά η ταινία με μπέρδεψε αρκετά. Δεν μπορώ να χαρακτηρίσω με απόλυτη σιγουριά το αν αποκομίζεις θετικά ή αρνητικά στοιχεία από αυτόν τον τομέα. Από τη μία, έβλεπες μια φοβερή προσαρμογή των βασικών μας ηρώων(των τρωκτικών) στο ρόλο που θα έπρεπε να παίξουν σε μια ημίαιμη action movie. Ο δημιουργός τους είχε βάλει τα δυνατά του, στον υπολογιστή που χειριζόταν, για να τους δώσει την σωστή κίνηση και τοποθέτηση στο χώρο. Σαφώς, σε αυτό συνεισφέρει και το σενάριο της ταινίας για το οποίο θα μιλήσουμε αμέσως μετά. Από την άλλη τώρα, παρατηρούσε κανείς σε πολλά σημεία κάποιες προχειροδουλειές και μια χαμηλή ποιότητα στα σκηνικά. Το γεγονός αυτό ήταν σαν να σε γύριζε κάποια χρόνια πίσω στον τομέα των γραφικών. Αυτό που θέλω να πω είναι οτι εφόσον εμπλέκεις στην ταινία σου και χρησιμοποιείς ευρέως τεχνολογίες όπως τα PDAs, το Wireless Internet και έννοιες όπως το Internet of Things, λογικό είναι ο θεατής να επιθυμεί αυτή την επίδραση της τενχολογίας να την δει αποτυπωμένη και στα υπόλοιπα μέρη του σκηνικού και όχι απλά και μόνο για να δοθεί η εικόνα του σύγχρονου εργαστηρίου να παρουσιάζεται, για παράδειγμα, ένα...κατασκεύασμα που μοιάζει με σωλήνα με ένα αυτοκόλλητο χημικού κινδύνου πάνω του.
Ως προς το σενάριο, μπορούμε να πούμε ευθέως ότι ακολουθεί την πεπατημένη..! Πολλές ατάκες, αδρεναλίνη σε υψηλά επίπεδα, αγωνία, ένας έρωτας στα σκαριά, κατασκοπεία, υψηλή τεχνολογία, φοβερές ικανότητες-διανοητικές και σωματικές- κτλ, συνθέτουν το συνολικό πλαίσιο του φιλμ. Όλα αυτά όμως δεν το κάνουν καθόλου βαρετό. Ίσα-ίσα που και έξυπνο χιούμορ έχει και άλλον χαρακτήρα σαν ταινία. Μπορεί να θεωρείτε αρνητικό παράγοντα τον κύκλο "Φάση 1(Αρχή):Ο καλός θριαμβεύει με μια πρόσκαιρη επιτυχία. Φάση 2(Μέση): Ο καλός και το κοινό όφελος βρίσκεται σε κίνδυνο. Φάση 3(Τέλος):Το καλό νικά". Παρόλ' αυτά, όμως, το status quo των action movies θεωρώ οτι σωστά επικρατεί με τον τρόπο που επικρατεί.
Για την ηθοποιία και τις φωνές: Αν παρατηρήσατε, στην ταινία παίζει ο Zach Galifianakis τον οποίο είχαμε δει στο Hangover. Έχει πολύ ωραία προσαρμογή στον συγκεκριμένο ρόλο και αποδεικνύει περίτρανα ότι χρειάζεται ιδιαίτερη προσοχή σαν ηθοποιός.Βέβαια, ο συγκεκριμένος ρόλος δεν τον αφήνει να ξεδιπλώσει το ταλέντο του απόλυτα, αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει τίποτα. Το casting των φωνών ήταν και αυτό πολύ εύστοχο. Δεν υπήραν άρχηστοι ρόλοι ή χαρακτήρες. Ομολογούμε, οτι αυτός ο τομέας αξίζει τα συγχαρητήρια μας..!
Η μουσική, νομίζω, οτι θα αρέσει στους περισσότερους. Ακούγονται mainstream beatάκια όπως τα "Don't Cha" και "Just Dance", αλλά και το κλασσικό χορωδιακό κομμάτι "O Fortuna" από την "Carmina Burana". Όλα τα κομμάτια που ακούγονται μπαίνουν στα σωστά σημεία και παντρεύονται πολύ όμορφα με την εκάστοτε σκηνή.
Για να κλείσουμε, λογικά θα πρέπει να σας κάνω την τελική μου πρόταση...Επειδή δεν ξέρω, ειλικρινά, όμως τι να προτείνω θα σας πω το εξής:
Να την δείτε με "άνεση".
Νοικιάστε τη, καλύτερα, ή επιλέξτε τον κινηματογράφο με το φθηνότερο εισιτήριο(για να μην χάσετε την αίσθηση του dolby surround..!)

Μια μικρή πάνινη κούκλα, ο 9, ζωντανέυει ενώ ο πλανήτης έχει καταστραφεί απο τη μάχη των ανθρώπων με τις μηχανές. Ανακαλύπτοντας μια ομάδα απο κρυμμένους ομοίους του, προσπαθεί να τους πείσει να αντιμετωπίσουν τις μηχανές και να ανακαλύψουν το λόγο για τον οποίο δημιουργήθηκαν..
Κριτική:
Το όνομα του TimBurton στην παραγωγή έδωσε μεγαλύτερη βαρύτητα σε αυτή την δημιουργια, η οποία είχε σαν βάση το ομώνυμο μικρού μήκους φίλμ του ShaneAcker, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 2005 και άφησε τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις. Ας δούμε λοιπόν αν η ταινία τα κατάφερε εξίσου καλά..
Αισθητικά, είναι χάρμα οφθαλμών, απο τις καλύτερες δουλειές που έχω δει σε αυτό το είδος, προσεγμένη μέχρι και στις λεπτομέρειες. Η σκηνοθεσία, βοηθούμενη απο το εξαιρετικό animation, φτιάχνει πολύ καλά πλάνα ανεβάζοντας ή ρίχνοντας το ρυθμό όπου χρειάζεται, παρουσιάζοντας την εφιαλτική εικόνα της κατεστραμένης Γης αλλά και στις μάχες, προσφέροντας πολύ δράση. Το soundtrack απο την άλλη, άλλοτε ατμοσφαιρικό κι άλλοτε αγωνιώδες, ταιριάζει με τις σκηνές τις οποίες “ντύνει”, και κάνει ακόμα καλύτερο το θέαμα.
Όσον αφορά στο σενάριο, η βασική ιδέα είναι έξυπνη, και οι κεντρικοί άξονες πάνω στους οποίους την αναπτύσει αρκετά καλοί, κάτι όμως χαλάει στην πορεία. Ενώ περιέχει αρκετά κοινωνικά μηνύματα σχετικά με την υπερχρήση των μηχανών, την ανθρώπινη αλαζονεία, τους συμβιβασμούς και την επανάπαυση των πάσης φύσεως εξουσιών - κάτι ανάμεσα σε Πάπα και βασιλιά θυμίζει ο 1 – εν ονόματι της ασφάλειας, τελικά ενα πολύ μεγάλο μέρος της ταινίας, η οποία διαρκεί μόλις 79 λεπτά, αναλώνεται σε μάχες. Αυτό ίσως ευχαριστήσει τους λάτρεις της δράσης, αλλά η προσωπική μου γνώμη είναι οτι τελικά το σενάριο αναπτύχθηκε λίγο λάθος, έτσι ώστε στο τέλος της ταινίας να έχεις μεν μπουχτίσει απο ξύλο, αλλά να προβληματίζεσαι και για τη μικρή διάρκεια της ταινίας.. Εν ολίγοις θα μπορούσε με την ίδια διάρκεια να είναι πιο ολοκληρωμένη.
Οι χαρακτήρες δεν έχουν ιδιαίτερη εμβάθυνση, εντούτοις είναι αρκετή για να σχηματίσεις γνώμη για τους περισσότερους και να δεθείς με τους πρωταγωνιστές. Καλή είναι και η ηχητική τους απόδοση απο το δυνατό κάστ, με κορυφαίο τον Christopher Plummer ή “1”. Καλοσχεδιασμένοι είναι επίσης και οι κακοί - μηχανές, κάποιοι από τους οποίους είναι πραγματικά τρομακτικοί.
Τελικό συμπέρασμα: Η αρχική, μικρού μήκους, ταινία δικαίως έδωσε την ελπίδα για μια επιτυχή εκτεταμένη έκδοση, στην πράξη όμως το 9 δεν θα αφήσει εποχή. Αξίζει να την δείτε, είδικα αν είστε φαν των animation, για την εξαιρετική αισθητική και την κεντρική του ιδέα, όμως δύσκολα θα την θυμάστε μετά απο καιρό. Κρίμα, γιατί με μια πιο προσεγμένη ιστορία θα είχε τα φόντα για κάτι πολύ καλύτερο..
Another DC animated film is out and of course I wouldn’t miss the chance to see it. Along line with the other DC releases its very good. All the elements that made the other films so good are still here. And also the same problems that due to its format will probably not change. But Public Enemies is by far from all the rest the best DC animated film in action and in its size of DC characters.
The story is of how Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown) has been elected president in dark times as the economy has gone down. Now in charge he sees fixing things in a different manner. Employing superheroes under the U.S. government. Not all though agree some do join and while in power the country manages to get back up again. Now Earth is faced with great threat the coming of meteor but there is a catch its of kryptonite. With this treat Luthor plays a game and makes Superman (Tim Daily) into public enemy number one. Only help he has is Batman (Kevin Conray) while he chased from the law, foes and with no time to waste so he can find a way with Batman to save the world.
As I said the film has everything the other DC animated films had. Great voice acting, serious story and great action. The standouts of the film are one the action which is top notch. Very well done and the idea of putting Supeman and Batman to fight a enormous amount of villains and superheroes is great eye candy. Another thing that stood out was the great lines. Some great dialogue that surprised me and made me enjoy the characters interaction even more.
The obvious problem I had as with the others is becaue this is straight to DVD film and for young audience is they don’t push themselves for a greater story length film. Story is great until the end which feels kind of messy but still manages to be ok. Also the animation is again standard, lacks in style with not much detail but very fluid in its action sequences. Also some of the plot elements seem a little bit influenced from the Marvel comic event Civil War but on a positive note incorporates DC history very well and does have a little bit social commentary in the beginning of the film which i admire.
Public Enemies has some great action and any comic fan will be pleased with this. But aside from the action and the great interaction between characters of course there not much else there. Only recommended to comic book fans.

Η νέα ταινία της Pixar αν και με εγκληματική, μπορώ να πω, καθυστέρηση τριών μηνών ήρθε επιτέλους στην Ελλάδα. Αλλά στα της ταινίας:
Όλα ξεκινάν όταν ο 78άχρονος Carl Fredricksen δένει στο σπίτι του χιλιάδες μπαλόνια και απογειώνεται με σκοπό να εκπληρώσει το όνειρο και να εξερευνήσει της ερημιές της Νότιας Αμερικής. Λίγο αφότου όμως έχει απογειωθεί αντιλαμβάνεται ότι δεν είναι μόνος του στο ταξίδι καθώς ένας επίμονος 8άχρονος προσκοπάκος ονόματι Russel έχει ξεμείνει στην εξώπορτά του. Μαζί λοιπόν θα ζήσουν την μεγάλη περιπέτεια και σε συνδυασμό με 2 ξεκαρδιστικά ζώα που θα βρούν στο δρόμο τους θα κληθούν να αντιμετωπίσουν τους κινδύνους και τις δυσκολίες που τους κρύβει η τύχη και το παρελθόν…
Τα πολλά λόγια περισσεύουν και το μόνο που μπορεί να ειπωθεί είναι ότι το πρώτο Όσκαρ δόθηκε και είμαι σίγουρος ότι αν στη θέση των ψηφιακών χαρακτήρων ήταν κανονικοί ηθοποιοί θα μπορούσαμε να μιλάμε για την ταινία που θα σάρωνε τα βραβεία. Αλλά αυτή είναι και η κατάρα των Animation films.
Η ταινία αυτή δεν αποτελεί αυτό που οι περισσότεροι περιμένετε, δεν είναι μια ανάλαφρη περιπέτεια ενός συμπαθούς γεράκου και ενός στρουμπουλού προσκόπου. Είναι κάτι πολύ παραπάνω. Οι χαρακτήρες έχουν ένα καταπληκτικό υπόβαθρο το οποίο προσωπικά μου δημιούργησε από τα πρώτα λεπτά ένα ξεχωριστό δέσιμο με τους πρωταγωνιστές, κάτι που ακόμα και ταινίες με κανονικούς ηθοποιούς δύσκολα σου δημιουργούν. Εκτός αυτού όμως τα νοήματα που η ταινία δε σταματάει να περνάει είναι απίστευτα και εξαίσια διατυπωμένα όπως ασφαλώς μόνο η Pixar ξέρει να διατυπώνει.
Και μετά αρχίζει η περιπέτεια! Καταπληκτικό χιούμορ για μικρούς και μεγάλους, φρέσκο και πρωτότυπο, ποτίζει κάθε διάλογο και κάθε σκηνή δημιουργώντας την ταινία και τους χαρακτήρες που σίγουρα ο θείος Walt θα περίμενε ως συνέχεια του εξαιρετικού Wall-e. Μόνο που αυτή η ταινία ανεβαίνει αρκετά σκαλιά πάνω από την ιστορία του συμπαθούς ρομπότ και ταυτόχρονα ανεβάζει τα στάνταρ και τις προσδοκίες που έχουμε από την Pixar.
Τα γραφικά και τα σκηνικά της ταινίας είναι τέλεια όπως όλοι περιμέναμε και η μουσική της είναι άψογη με το κλασσικό Habanera να κυριαρχεί στο soundtrack.
Εν κατακλείδι η ταινία αποτελεί μια συγκινητική και ταυτόχρονα ξεκαρδιστική περιπέτεια που αποδεικνύει ότι το είδος προσφέρετε και έχει την προοπτική για μεγάλα πράγματα στο μέλλον και για ακόμα μεγαλύτερα δημιουργήματα. Αν και την είδα σε 2D ήταν ένα αριστούργημα. Φαντάζομαι ότι σε 3D πολλά σημεία θα δείχνουν πολύ καλύτερα και πολύ πιο θεαματικά. ‘Όπως και να έχει όμως μέχρι στιγμής το Up αποτελεί μια από τις καλύτερες αν όχι τη καλύτερη ταινία Animation που έχω δει. Μη την χάσετε!!
Now you might be wondering. What does this have to do with Watchmen and why are there pirates and why haven't i heard about it? Well the reason is that this was in the comic but one the less realistic things to put in. Only people who have read of the comic well no of this material. Ill talk about a little about the whole story and why should or should you not give a damn about this little film.
The film is a about the story of a captain (Gerald Butler) and his peril of losing his ship and shipmates by the Black Freighter. Its his story of his will to warn the shore of the Black Freighter coming and his own fight of keeping himself alive and sane long enough to accomplish his goal.
Tales of the Black Freighter is a comic within comic in the Graphic Novel Watchmen. It was a subplot that had to comparison the in comic heroes with real heroes of the story. How the emotions some would consider similar. How a man of bravery and wit can go so easily to insanity. But because of its weird nature as an a little experiment within the realms of the genre of a comic it would have been too weird to put it in a live action film. So it was cut and made into this 25 minute film for any die hard Watchmen fans of the film and comic.
Now is this film for you is the big question? I would say no. I cant really recommend this. It being just a 25 minute film. In reality as an extra on the Watchmen DVD would be cool but they built it into whole other DVD release which is a rip off. Its only 25 minutes. And because you know its only 25 minutes you don't fully enjoy the film. I mean its good, its serious and great story. But its only 25 minutes as a straight to DVD release. Also there adding this whole film mixed inside the Watchmen film on the directors cut DVD which is going to be exactly like the comic but make the film immensely weirder.
As much i can say there's is no need to see this film. Its only 25 minutes and this wasn't the best part of the Watchmen books. Tales of the Black Freighter is a good pirate story that corresponds to the events of the Watchmen. Only Watchmen fans should take a look, others will be mad over the short length like i was and im a fan of the comic so don't bother.

Lately I’ve had a little comic book animation fever. So I decided to go further back but not that far and see a real gem in comic book film animation. The New Frontier has everything that one of these genre films need, emotion, great back stories, exploding action, tense scenes and being a faithful adaptation of the comic and characters. Seeing this movie is enough to understand why people love comics and what emotions, meanings and spirit it brings to some of us.
The story is from the comic of the same name. It takes place outside of DC continuity but incorporated all those DC characters perfectly and exactly as their origins were. Its based in the 50’s as the famous characters started to come to fruition or as its called the Golden Age of comics. Here we get to see origins of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Martian the Manhunter and also take a peak at the lives other superheroes Superman, Batman, Flash and others. All are connected together while this new force tries to destroy their home. The Center leaving clues everywhere of his coming. But these glorious heroes will have to put their flaws aside and see that only together can they survive against this mighty foe.
Why I loved this film so much was for its great ability to capture the time of the 50’, to place the characters so well at that time and how it’s all connected through the threat of the Center that brings them all together. We never really get to see these lovely heroes as they used to be and i mean the eras that they were born. We forget that they first started out in different times with different problems. The story takes place in the era of McCarthyism in the U.S. and you can feel this throughout the film. The feeling of distrust and paranoia effect the DC heroes in many ways and the conclusion of it all is for hope and to fight for a better days.
Also another thing that I came to admire this film for is primarily the idea of one story fully transitioned into a film. Its transition from comic to film is very well done and is due to very well direction of first timer Dave Bullock and of the writers which one them is also the creator of the comic. As well as the animation style closely resembles the comic and the characters and story are not butchered like in so many other adaptations. But overall the idea of making films out of stories or graphic novels is a good one. Instead taking bits and pieces and making a mess of the story it’s nice to chose ready made stories or arcs of some great tales and let everyone enjoy them too in the medium of movies. Also this trend is slowly starting to take more of a happening with further development of more animation films that will be just of classic stories in animation format.
My only complaint of this film can only be of its length. I wanted more out of the experience. I did get my money’s worth but a 2 hour epic with even more character development out of Batman or even some of the smaller character would have been great. But even Batman who plays more of behind scenes role is perfect. Smart, calculative you can see that no one really knows what kind of guy he is. What I'm trying to say is that even with the film's small length it still manages to hit all its characters personalities and traits perfectly. Its just that most of these animation films stop before hour and half most of the times due to children as their prime audience. As they couldn’t watch a little more of this difficult material but anyway what can you do.
Animation films based on comics are not a big seller. Meant for kids the genre will not change that much. But if most of these films are like this in quality you know it’s a step up. Just a little more of this kind of quality and bigger length time will make for grander type of film and lift out this genre from the dreadful only position of straight to DVD releases. But I don’t see that happening in the near future. In the meantime this is a must view for comic’s fans and for anyone bored with the classic choices of comedies and action films.

In terms of quality Green Lantern is pretty much on par with Wonder Woman. But in my opinion it’s a bit worse as a film for it’s somewhat lazy, and not on the mark depiction of Green Lantern. Green Lantern is probably my favorite DC comic’s character and plays a big part in my critique of the whole film. Even though I may consider a little bit of a problem it doesn’t mean that this still isn’t a good film.
For those not familiar with the Green Lantern mythos let me summarize a bit so you know what you’re getting into. Green Lanterns are a space police that protect the universe with their power rings. Their rings are powered by the Lantern power source that is in the middle of the universe on their headquarters that is the planet OA. Also they are leaded by the Guardians who are one of the oldest life forms of the galaxy. And last their power comes from the element of green that stands for willpower.
Now for the story. First Flight starts off with the death of Green Lantern Abin Surr and Hal Jordan training on a flight simulator. With Abin Sur death his ring searches for a new bearer which is Jordan. Once it finds him, Hal becomes a Lantern and is filled with new and inconceivable responsibilities. After his encounter with other Lanterns for further training on OA he is partnered up with the best Lantern in universe Sinestro. Now on his way to be a space cop he learns the true nature behind Abin Sur death and the trade of being a Lantern.
Even though I think it’s a good film. There are a number of problems due to my knowledge of the source material. Many might say that I’m nitpicking and that not knowing the source material doesn’t affect the viewing. Yes but because of my knowledge I have to clarify some things that I didn’t like. First of most of the film does treat the character and the mythos correctly with no huge mistakes. But they are things that are lacking and were changed for stupid reasons. One is the lack of origins story. The way he gets to be a Lantern is speeded up pretty quickly. The reason is said to be by director Lauren Montgomery that is already told in another DC animated film the New Frontier. Something that people will have not probably seen and that is placed in the Golden Age of comics of the 50’s. Quite different origins stories. Same way of getting the ring but no dealing with who Hal Jordan is and where he comes from.
And these aren't the only complaints I’ve got. The origin is kind of changed and I’m talking specifically about the search of Abin Sur killer. In the comics there is a great story with many classic villains, action, mystery and foretold prophecy for future stories which are all lost in the animated film. Probably because they didn’t care or wanted it to be in the live action film that is about to be made but I doubt. Also Sinestro becomes a bad guy in the comics not from the very start and the storyline of the film squeezes in a storyline of many arcs from a 50 year comic book history into the origin film of Hal Jordan within a measly 10 minute battle. You can understand my frustration as how they botched this film up. Also little things of the comics that are so important from issue to issue are missing like how their rings power levels are for example.
Even though it seems that I hate this film I don’t. As with Wonder Woman it has great action, voice acting and direction. DC animation studio is doing a exceptional job. But they should do much more research on how they write their origin and their character development because this film was lacking severely in it. Also a bigger budget for the animation wouldn't be a problem. After all of that I still recommend this film and hope you enjoy it and become a Green Lantern fan like me.

Let me just start by saying that I’m a huge comic book fan as youve might have realized by my many comics book film reviews. Wonder Woman has been though one of those characters that never attracted me that much. I will explain more why later on. But as mediocre fan of DC and with no knowledge of Wonder Woman history but of basics I managed to enjoy this animated film. I think many others will as well. Its easy to get into film that shows that even the silliest of characters can have a different side to them.
What amazed me was the epicness and serious tone of the story. It all starts out with ancient war between the Amazon women led by Queen Hippolyta (Virginia Madsen) and the god of war Ares (Alfred Molina). After a fierce battle Hera decides to keep Ares power contained and gives the gift to the warrior Hippolyta a land to live away from man and beautiful daughter Diana (Keri Russell). After centuries of isolation a fighter pilot crash lands on the Amazon land and young Diana has her first encounter with a man Steve Trevor (Nathan Fillion). And from then on will start her goal of protecting mankind. In the meantime evil Ares with help of a Amazon women is looking to get his power back and destroy the world and act revenge against the Amazonian s.
What makes this film so special is the seriousness of the material. I wasn't expecting Amazon women talking about gender biasism which is played very heavily and plays dominant part in Diana’s first encounter with men and the outside world. Usually when it’s a straight to DVD animated film you would think that these subjects or words like misogynistic would ever be in it because it would be probably for kids. Well think again. This film is not that much for children with great action and hints to messier violence this more for young adults either that are interested in getting into the comics lore or fans that just want to see their heroes in another medium.
Now you may wonder what are my problems with Wonder Woman? Well first it has to start with DC. DC is the place for more iconic figures to a more fantasy realm of environment while Marvel is the place for realism and modern story setting with a touch of fantasy more to my taste. This is something that always bothered me to entering Wonder Woman world and to the DC universe. Also the costume, the way her powers act and all these little things always put me off. And I’m happy to say that the film does a pretty good job of telling the story of Wonder Woman without being cheesy, stupid and out of this world not believable but instead it makes for a good animation film.
DC and Marvel have realized there potential market and have started already to make entertaining straight to DVD animated films with an aim to educate the audience of their characters before a most likely feature length release. Smart move based that many of these characters are not known to the greater public. Also the gaining of class act actors to voice these iconic figures and smaller characters make the whole film more believable.
Fans of animation and comics should enjoy this film. Some cool action scenes, some light violence and with the serious tone of material makes this into fun film. Anybody looking for entry point into comics or Wonder Woman this film is highly suggested. Enjoy!
