Η Ιστορία:

Βρισκόμαστε στην Αλάσκα και συγκεκριμένα στην πόλη Nome, όπου ενώ θυμίζει μια οποιαδήποτε άλλη πόλη, είναι η μήτρα περίεργων δραστηριοτήτων και ανεξήγητων φαινομένων. Τις τελευταίες τέσσερις δεκαετίες είχαν παρατηρηθεί εξαφανίσεις ανθρώπων ,δολοφονίες και αυτοκτονίες χωρίς κάποιο συγκεκριμένο μοτίβο ή λόγο για κάτι τέτοιο. Κυρίαρχο πρόσωπο της ιστορίας μας είναι η ψυχολόγος Abbey Tyler , που έπειτα από τον τραγικό και συνάμα ανεξήγητο θάνατο του άντρα της (και αυτός ψυχολόγος) , προσπαθεί να ξανασταθεί στα πόδια της. Όμως παρατηρεί κάτι το περίεργο κατά την διάρκεια της ψυχανάλυσης σε άτομα της πόλης, τα οποία ενώ είχαν έρθει σε αυτήν για προβλήματα διαταραχής ύπνου έκρυβαν κάτι το αλλόκοτο, τρομαχτικό και ανεξήγητο αν θέλετε. Έπειτα από μια ακολουθία συνταραχτικών γεγονότων, τα οποία κάνουν ακόμα και τον πιο σκεπτικιστή να θέλει να ψαχτεί ακόμα παραπάνω, η ψυχολόγος προσπαθεί να βρει την άκρη του νήματος που ξετυλίγει το υπερφυσικό αυτό κουβάρι , όμως θα καταλάβει ότι δεν είναι και τόσο εύκολο.. Το The Fourth Kind είναι βασισμένο σε αληθινή ιστορία και ίσως μία από τις πιο περίεργες στην μελέτη μεταφυσικών φαινομένων και ψυχολογικών μελετών.

Η Κριτική:

Πάρα πολλοί βγήκαν να πουν ότι το The Fourth Kind θα είναι μια φτηνή απομίμηση του Paranormal Activity και ότι βγήκε τώρα για να προσπαθήσει να κλέψει λίγη από την δόξα του. Χωρίς όμως να προσπαθήσω να χρυσώσω το χάπι, πιστεύω πως όσοι μιλούσαν για κάτι τέτοιο, απλά δεν έχουν ιδέα για του τι λένε. Αυτό που συνδέει τις δύο ταινίες είναι μόνο και μόνο το πέπλο του ανεξήγητου και τίποτε άλλο.

Προσωπική μου γνώμη είναι (και μιας και ήμουν αυτός που έτυχε να κάνει κριτική και στις δύο αυτές ταινίες) ότι και οι δύο τους ήταν από τις πιο όμορφες εκπλήξεις τις τελευταίας χρονιάς, η κάθε μία με τον δικό της ξεχωριστό τρόπο. Αυτό σας το λέει κάποιος που ποτέ του δεν ήταν φανατικός οπαδός των ταινιών τρόμου και κάποιος που πάντα έβρισκε κάτι που δεν έστεκε, είτε σκηνοθετικά είτε λογικά.

Όπως ανέφερα και πριν, το The Fourth Kind είναι βασισμένο σε αληθινή ιστορία και αυτό ήταν κάτι που ο σκηνοθέτης δεν φοβήθηκε να δείξει στο έπακρον. Καθ' όλη την διάρκεια της ταινίας ο θεατής βλέπει είτε αυτούσιες, είτε σε παραλληλία με το έργω σκηνές από τα πραγματικά γεγονότα που συνέβησαν τότε, όπως επίσης και μια συνέντευξη της πραγματικής πρωταγωνίστριας,που κατά την γνώμη μου το κάνει ακόμα πιο τρομαχτικό (αν δείτε τις σκηνές αυτές θα καταλάβετε τι εννοώ...).

Η Jovovich που υποδύεται την ψυχολόγο Abbey Tyler καταφέρνει να σταθεί επάξια στον δύσκολο αυτόν ρόλο και λέω δύσκολο γιατί έπρεπε να φέρει στα μέτρα της μια τόσο ιδιαίτερη ψυχολογικά προσωπικότητα και από την άλλη, μέσω των real-life σκηνών έπρεπε να φανεί όσο πιο πιστευτή μπορούσε. Πάντα την συμπαθούσα σαν ηθοποιό και στο The Fourth Kind δεν με απογοήτευσε, αν και σε καμία περίπτωση δεν ήταν ρόλος που κάνει την διαφορά. Το υπόλοιπο cast παίζει αξιοπρεπέστατα και ειδικά οι ασθενείς της, οι οποίοι είναι λες και έχουν στα αλήθεια κάποιο πρόβλημα..

Όσον αφορά την σκηνοθεσία η ψήφος μου είναι θετική, μιας και φαίνεται σε όλη την ταινία το πόσο πάλεψε όλο το συνεργείο να την κάνει να φανεί όσο πιο ρεαλιστική γινόταν και να μην “περάσει” ως μια ταινία θρίλερ του σωρού, που το μόνο της ιδιαίτερο χαρακτηριστικό ήταν το ότι είναι βασισμένη σε αληθινά γεγονότα. Τα πλάνα του Osunsanmi είναι απόκοσμα και συνάμα επιβλητικά και ο τρόπος που τα έχει συνδέσει είναι αρτιότατος , ακόμα και αν η ταινία διαρκεί μόνο μιάμιση ώρα .Αυτό είναι κατά την γνώμη μου ίσως και το πιο δύσκολο κομμάτι σε μια ταινία τρόμου.

Το The Fourth Kind με έκανε να μείνω προσκολλημένος στην οθόνη σε όλη του την διάρκεια και σίγουρα μετά από το τέλος του ο ύπνος δεν ήταν και τόσο εύκολη υπόθεση..Δεν είναι το θρίλερ της δεκαετίας, ούτε και μια από τις καλύτερες ταινίας της χρονιάς. Καταφέρνει όμως πάρα μα πάρα πολύ καλά να περάσει τα μηνύματα που θέλει και να κάνει ακόμα και τον πιο “δύσκολο” θεατή να πεταχτεί από την θέση του σε αρκετές σκηνές. Είναι μια ταινία που σας προτείνω ανεπιφύλαχτα, ειδικά αν σας αρέσει η μίξη του μεταφυσικού με την κλασσική συνταγή ενός καλοδουλεμένου θρίλερ. Είναι μια ταινία που αξίζει πάρα πολύ για σινεμά με καλή παρέα και γερά νεύρα..

Υ.Γ: Συγχωρέστε με που δεν αποκάλυψα περισσότερα για την πλοκή.. Αν το έκανα αυτό δεν θα άξιζε να την δείτε μιας και είναι λεπτή η γραμμή που διαχωρίζει το spoiler με την ανάλυση σε αυτή την ιστορία!

Ιστορία:

Ο συνεσταλμένος Dorian Gray φτάνει στο Λονδίνο, όπου παρασύρεται από τον εκκεντρικό Henry Wotton σε μια ακόλαστη ζωή χωρίς οποιονδήποτε ηθικό φραγμό. Όταν ο ζωγράφος φίλος του Basil φτιάχνει το εντυπωσιακό πορτραίτο του, ο Dorian εύχεται να μπορούσε να πουλήσει την ψυχή του ώστε να μείνει για πάντα νέος και όμορφος..

Κριτική:

Ακόμα μια μεταφορά του βιβλίου του Oscar Wilde, ή ακόμα ένα δείγμα του κορεσμού που υπάρχει στον τομέα των σεναρίων, το Dorian Gray έρχεται στις 28 Γενάρη στη χώρα μας, έχοντας δημιουργήσει καλές προσδοκίες λόγω της φήμης του βιβλίου, του γνωστού καστ και του ενδιαφέροντος trailer. Το αν θα τις δικαιώσει είναι ένα άλλο, πιο υποκειμενικό θέμα, στο οποίο προσωπικά δεν τα κατάφερε.

Ο Toby Finlay που ανέλαβε τη διασκευή του βιβλίου, ενώ μένει πιστός στους γενικούς άξονες, αλλάζει και προσθέτει κάποια στοιχεία προσπαθώντας να δώσει περισσότερο ενδιαφέρον, η προσπάθεια αυτή ωστόσο μοιάζει μάλλον βεβιασμένη και θα απογοητεύσει τους περισσότερους οπαδούς του βιβλίου. Οι υπόλοιποι δεν θα βρουν κάποιο ιδιαίτερο ψεγάδι στον τομέα του σεναρίου.

Η σκηνοθεσία από την άλλη, ενώ δίνει μια συμπαθητική αισθητική στην ταινία, αφενός στις δυνατές σκηνές μοιάζει να μη βοηθά ιδιαίτερα στην κλιμάκωση των συναισθημάτων και αφετέρου προσπαθεί σπασμωδικά να ισορροπήσει ανάμεσα στο ψυχογράφημα των χαρακτήρων, την απόδοση της βικτωριανής εποχής και την τρομακτική πλευρά του σεναρίου με αποτέλεσμα να μη φτάνει σε κανέναν τομέα σε υψηλά επίπεδα..

Και αυτό που σίγουρα δεν τράβηξε, είναι η επιλογή για τον πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο. Κατά την ταπεινή μου γνώμη, ο Ben Barnes παρά τη φιλότιμη προσπάθεια αποδεικνύεται λίγος, και από τη στιγμή που το έργο στηρίζεται πάνω του, μοιραία ο πήχης χαμηλώνει. Το υπόλοιπο καστ αποδίδει ικανοποιητικά, κυρίως οι Colin Firth και Ben Chaplin, χωρίς να μπορεί να σώσει το συνολικό αποτέλεσμα από την μετριότητα.

Συμπέρασμα : Καταρχάς, θα πρότεινα στους λάτρεις του κλασικού βιβλίου του Oscar Wilde, καθώς και σε όσους αναζητούν μια “ψαγμένη” ταινία να παρακάμψουν το Dorian Gray. Αν πάλι ψάχνετε κάτι πιο ελαφρύ και δεν ανήκετε στην πρώτη ομάδα από τις παραπάνω, ο συνδυασμός του “λίγο δράμα, λίγο σεξ, άντε και λίγος τρόμος” με το κλίμα του φιλμ εποχής θα σας βοηθήσει να περάσετε σχετικά εύκολα σχεδόν δύο ώρες, κατά προτίμηση σπίτι όταν με το καλό κυκλοφορήσει το dvd, καθώς με τα 7-8 ευρώ του σινεμά θα βρείτε σίγουρα κάτι καλύτερο να δείτε..

Ιστορία

Η οικογένεια Κάμπελ μετακομίζει σε ένα παλιό σπίτι στο Κονέκτικατ ωστέ να βρίσκεται ο βαριά άρρωστος Μάτ κοντά στο νοσοκομείο που κάνει την θεραπεία του. Εκεί θα έρθουν αντιμέτωποι με ανεξήγητα φαινόμενα και ανατριχιαστικά οράματα και θα ανακαλύψουν ότι το σπίτι κρύβει ένα ζοφερό παρελθόν, το οποίο αποτελεί κίνδυνο και για τους ίδιους…





Κριτική

Έχοντας προβληθεί στην Αμερική ήδη από τον περασμένο Μάρτιο, η εν λόγω ταινία έκανε τελικά πρεμιέρα και στη χώρα μας την περασμένη βδομάδα. Βασισμένη σε αληθινά γεγονότα σύμφωνα με τους παραγωγούς- σχετικά με τα οποία είχε κυκλοφορήσει και ένα ομώνυμο ντοκυμαντέρ πριν 4 χρόνια- κάτι το οποίο όμως έχει αρχίσει όμως να κουράζει σαν μέσο προώθησης, καθώς τα τελευταία χρόνια το ακούμε κατά κόρον και συνήθως αποδεικνύεται απάτη ή διαφημιστικό τρικ..



Όσον αφορά το σενάριο, ούτε κρύο ούτε ζέστη. Δεν απέχει ιδιαίτερα από το μοτίβο που κινούνται συνήθως οι ταινίες του είδους, τονίζοντας μόνο λίγο περισσότερο το δραματικό στοιχείο, με αποτέλεσμα να μην είναι μεν κακό, αλλά ούτε και τίποτα το ιδιαίτερο. Θα μπορούσε με 1-2 ανατροπές ή κάποιο άλλο εύρημα να γίνει πιο ενδιαφέρον, αλλά δυστυχώς οι πρωτότυπες ιδέες σπανίζουν τα τελευταία χρόνια..



Η σκηνοθεσία δημιουργεί ένα μουντό, βαρύ σκηνικό πάνω στο οποίο ξεδιπλώνει όλο το οπλοστάσιο τρόμου, περίεργοι θόρυβοι, φώτα που τρεμοπαίζουν, ξαφνικά πετάγματα, που σε συνδυασμό με το καλό μακιγιάζ θα ικανοποιήσουν αυτούς που αναζητούν τον “εύκολο” τρόμο. Αυτός φαίνεται να είναι τελικά και ο στόχος της ταινίας, καθώς δεν υπάρχει η σεναριακή ποιότητα για κάτι περισσότερο.



Οι χαρακτήρες αναπτύσσονται κάπως σπασμωδικά και είναι αρκετά τυποποιημένοι για τέτοιες ταινίες. Δε γίνεται ιδιαίτερη εμβάθυνση και ως εκ τούτου οι ερμηνείες είναι ικανοποιητικές, αφού οι αρκετά καλοί ηθοποιοί δεν αντιμετωπίζουν κάποιο πρόβλημα με τις απαιτήσεις των ρόλων τους.





Τελικό συμπέρασμα: Αν είστε οπαδοί του τρόμου, η πρόταση μου είναι να δείτε την εν λόγω ταινία. Να την δείτε όμως χωρίς μεγάλες απαιτήσεις, καθώς δεν έχει κάτι το πρωτοποριακό, δεν περιέχει βαθύτερα μηνύματα ή πολύπλευρους χαρακτήρες και γενικά δεν θα αποτελέσει σημείο αναφοράς για το είδος, θα καταφέρει εντούτοις να σας τρομάξει, τουλάχιστον για την μιάμιση και κάτι ώρα που διαρκεί. Χαμηλώστε φώτα, ανάψτε κεριά, και καλή διασκέδαση..

Thirst (2009)

If you’re in the mood for a real vampire film Thirst is the proper way to go. Its not shiny, soap operarish and doesn’t have giant werewolves. Its more realistic take on the vampire genre with a romance to it and the corruption of the disease that is to be a vampire.

The story is of a deeply faithful priest Sang-hyun (Song Kang-Ho), who wants to help people as much as he can. He goes to this religious research facility that is researching on an virus that is plaguing missionaries. They administer the virus, then the vaccine on Sang-hyun and other test subjects to look for a cure. After loss of much of his blood, they put in him for unknown reasons vampire blood and from there the magic begins. Slowly his transformation to this vampiric entity will change him entirely and shake his religious beliefs. Falling in love with one his patient’s wife. The two of them will bond and in a sense will be doomed to hell.

Vampires are back once again due to the whole Twilight fad. But Chan-woo Park is not affected by the fad and actually makes a very fascinating film. It manages to tell a quirky, cool and fun tale that actually has some filmmaking to it, compared to the Twilight Saga. It's about forbidden love, lust, corruption of the mind, soul and where are actions take us. And it so happens to have vampires in it. Focusing too much on the monster mythology is what makes most monster or horror films fail. Let it be in the background if its not integral to the story.

If your not familiar with who Park is, he is the guy who made Olboy,one of the best films to come out of Asian cinema. In a way Oldboy is a masterpiece in my opinion. Thirst is no masterpiece. But no biggie. It still has all those qualities and filmmaking techniques that Oldboy had. Park's camera angles, the way he chooses his characters to act, the blood, the frenetic and surealistic story at all times keep the film fresh and constantly interesting. A lot of times due to his playful camera work and surrealistic storytelling you will be scratching your head or pondering with what’s taking place and if everything is as normal as it seems. Park is one one of those few filmmakers that manage to attract and entertain the audience with his incredible cinematic ideas and deep and provacative stories.

The fault of the film could be its quirkiness and its humor. There are a few elements of the film that are a tad weird. May they be some jokes in the film or the dialogue. But all of this could be attributed to bad subtitle translation or Korean humor. But any case its nothing too serious to distract you from the overall experience.

Thirst is the best horror film ive seen this year. There is a enough blood to go around with only gore fanatics to be disappointed. This is the vampire film to see and not Twilight, which is just a disgrace to the vampire genre and to cinema today.

House on Haunted HIll (1959)

Was in a little luck last weekend. Caught this horror b-movie classic on Cine+ and it so happened to fit perfectly to the Horror Αφιέρωμα and will be the last review of it. Ι wasn't really impressed by the film, was excepting a little more but i did enjoy the different manner of film making they had back in the 50's.

The story if you haven't guessed already is about a haunted house. The rich Fredrick Loren (Vincent Price) and his wife have this devilish plan to invite 6 strangers into the mansion and to whoever survives the night to get 10,000 dollars each. But his plan has evil in its root and contains secrets between this rich couple. All will not be pleasant for this bunch of people trapped in House on Haunted Hill.

Back in the day when special effects were not at the forefront, innovation and lots of preparation and imagination took place to make a very good film. Things had to seem as if they were apart of the background. Blend in with the rest of the film. Today you see too much of the effects trying to stand out and in consequence look terrible and fake. Thats one of the attributes of this film that i liked so much its ability of being subtle with visual effects and going for very well creepy and scary shots that the film does pretty well.

The effects, the great performance by Vincent Price and of the rest of the cast made the film at least not be a bore. Also the story wasn't bad or steeped illogic crap. But thats were we get to the bad part. The story once it gets going it suddenly resolves too quickly. As the mystery gets thicker to who is at fault and what is really going on in the house the film is about almost over. I was scratching my head and wondering did they really think that was enough to settle the story. The sudden ending without a proper resolution to the story and really leaving us with no good hint about the happenings occurring in the house were a major letdown. A remake could do so much just on the mystery factor but the 1999 remake proved it was just a big pile of sh**.

Out of this relic i got another one of Vincent Price's great performances and an intriguing horror mystery experience that even due to its faults, wasn't boring and only was 75 minutes long. Recommended only to people curious for old horror films and to fans of the legend Vincent Price.

The Fog (1980) Horror Αφιέρωμα

Ιστορία

Ένα παραλιακό χωριό γιορτάζει 100 χρόνια από την ίδρυσή του. Μια παράξενη ομίχλη όμως αρχίζει να πλησιάζει από την θάλασσα, οπού επίσης πριν 100 χρόνια είχε ναυαγήσει ένα πλοίο με λεπρούς οι οποίοι προορίζονταν να αποικήσουν την περιοχή, και φαίνεται ότι τώρα ζητούν την εκδίκηση τους..

Κριτική

Οι περισσότεροι λάτρεις των ταινιών τρόμου θα γνωρίζουν αυτή την κλασική ταινία, από τις αρκετά γνωστές του μετρ του είδους John Carpenter, σκηνοθέτη των Halloween, Christine, They live και πολλών άλλων ταινιών-σταθμών για το είδος. Ας ρίξουμε όμως μια πιο προσεκτική ματιά στους επιμέρους τομείς του The Fog..

Το σενάριο, πρωτότυπο για την εποχή που το σινεμά τρόμου ανεβάζει στροφές με πρωτεργάτες τους Romero και Carpenter, βασίζεται σε μια καλή κεντρική ιδέα, η οποία αναπτύσσεται ικανοποιητικά, με ελάχιστα περιττά στοιχεία, αλλά και μερικά κενά, τα οποία όμως δεν προβληματίζουν ιδιαίτερα. Το βασικό όσον αφορά το σενάριο είναι ακριβώς το ότι δεν περιέχει αδιάφορα διαστήματα, έτσι ώστε ένας καλός σκηνοθέτης να το εκμεταλλευτεί στο έπακρο..

Και για καλή μας τύχη γίνεται ακριβώς αυτό. Τα μέσα που διαθέτει ο Carpenter για να δημιουργήσει είναι πενιχρά μπροστά στη σημερινή τεχνολογία, παρόλα αυτά τα διαχειρίζεται με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο. Χρησιμοποιεί την ομίχλη φτιάχνοντας μια ατμόσφαιρα αβεβαιότητας και μυστηρίου και εμφανίζει τα πνεύματα-ζόμπι καλυμμένα σε αυτή χωρίς να τα εμφανίζει ποτέ ολοκάθαρα- ακόμα και όταν δεν τα καλύπτει η ομίχλη σε 1-2 σκηνές, με κόντρα φωτισμό τα κάνει να φαίνονται σαν μαύρες φιγούρες- έτσι ώστε να προκαλούν το απαιτούμενο δέος. Η σκηνοθετική του ικανότητα όμως φαίνεται από την αρχή της ταινίας, πριν έρθει η ομίχλη, που καταφέρνει να δημιουργήσει μόνο με εντυπωσιακή χρήση της κάμερας και λίγα τεχνάσματα μια ένταση που θα διαρκέσει μέχρι το εντυπωσιακό της φινάλε. Για να το καταφέρει αυτό χρησιμοποιεί τέλεια και τον ήχο, όπως και την μουσική, τα οποία σε κρατούν σε εγρήγορση και αγωνία..

Όσον αφορά τις ερμηνείες, το δυνατό cast αποδίδει πάρα πολύ καλά και ρεαλιστικά, χωρίς υπερβολές όπως συχνά βλέπουμε στις σύγχρονες ταινίες τρόμου, και υποστηρίζει στο μέγιστο βαθμό τη σκηνοθετική δουλειά.

Τελικό συμπέρασμα: Το The Fog αποτελεί αναμφισβήτητα σημείο αναφοράς στο σινεμά τρόμου. Σε κάνει να προβληματίζεσαι γιατί με τα μέσα και τις τεχνολογίες που υπάρχουν σήμερα, η πρόοδος στην ποιότητα των ταινιών δεν είναι ανάλογη, αυτή όμως είναι μια μεγάλη συζήτηση. Νομίζω πως κάθε οπαδός του είδους πρέπει να δει τη συγκεκριμένη ταινία, για να προσέξει όχι τα εφέ, αλλά την εξαιρετική σκηνοθεσία και τις σοβαρές ερμηνείες και, αν μη τι άλλο, θα έχει τουλάχιστον ένα εφόδιο περισσότερο για να μπορεί να κρίνει καλύτερα τις ταινίες τρόμου και όχι μόνο..

After his two success in the past with zombies, Day Of The Dead didn't turn out to be the same. In script stage it was to be a 7 million dollar Gone With the Wind of zombie films. It happened to be 5 million dollars less, with an heavily re-written script that in the end was for most people too violent, too loud and quite too different to the beloved slapstick nature of Dawn of the Dead that most people fell in love with.

Day of the Dead deals with the zombie assault on one of the last military establishment still operable.In this establishment the government sent some military, scientists and civilians to study the zombie problem and try to reverse it. Sarah (Lori Cardille) the lead character is the most levelheaded of the group. Stuck down there with her are a drunk radio man, crazy bunch of machismo soldiers leaded by Rhodes (Joseph Pilato) and the lead scientist Logan or Dr. Frankenstein. But as more people die and things get tighter and patience wheres thin, they will have to rely on each other or die.

The theme of this film is the that, failing to work together is more dangerous than the actual threat of zombies. It was internal feuding and a failure to cooperate which led to the mutiny and total breech of the underground base in the film. The casual viewer might not realize that the zombies posed very little direct threat. Throughout Romero's films you see his views on how humans deal with problems and that there not capable of solving them.

The film received least enthusiasm from the three films. Romero's original vision for the film was ambitious but accepted a prohibitively small budget in exchange for the production company tolerating an un-rated film. If he had chosen to go for an R rating he would have had seven million dollars to work with, but aiming for an unrated, he was given a mere three and a half million. The original script was considerably more complex and ambitious with most of the elements and huge sequences moved to his fourth zombie film Land of the Dead.

After a dark but with underlined humor throughout Dawn of the Dead, Day became the darkest and most violent of his Dead movies. One of the main reasons the film failed also the fact that it had more talking and people screaming than the other films. Romero though despite the changes still furthers the evolution of the zombie as we see with zombie Bub (Howard Sherman). He shows intelligence and recollection of objects from when he was human, also showing emotions.

Day of the Dead despite its faults is a good movie in its own right. Personally i think you have to watch it over three times to really get into it. Because there is a lot of overacting, cheesy music and the overall tone of the film puts you off upon first viewing. But afterwards you have much more fun, enjoying the overacting and the screaming and you go with it.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

This second film in the Romero zombie series is one the most adored horror films out there, undoubtedly the best zombie film ever made and one of my top 5 favorite films. Night of the Living Dead started the whole zombie madness and Dawn of the Dead just continued it.

Zombies are slowly taking over cities & towns. Francine (Gaylen Ross) & Stephen (David Emge) two reporters & two S.W.A.T. members Peter (Ken Foree) & Roger (Scott H. Reiniger) are running from the escalation of zombie invasion and hold up in a shopping mall. There they do their best to survive with plenty of food, safety and consumer items to keep them busy. But the Zombies are not the only threat to their lives because as this series has told us that the worst enemies are ourselves the humans.

As in every Romero zombie film, each one has satirical point on society of the time. This one deals with issue of consumerism of the time that was really rising, hence the mall. The ultimate consumer paradise. The irony is that the Zombies would remember the mall as a special place. I wonder why? They were zombies before they even were eating people alive. In many ways Romero was ahead of his time comenting on matters that still didnt have that much affect and dealing within the horror genre. This is why admire him and his films so much. Uplifting the genre with great character stories with a great background of social commentary.

Also another theme of Romero's zombie films with the social commentary/satire is the overall evolution of the zombies. Zombies were not just the villain but evolving characters that would change. There were still a lot to learn from these creatures and lessons that humans could learn from them. Slowly the zombies are now evolving into using tools, like some basic animals can, as well having some sort of recollection of who their were. As well in Romero's trademarks is the enlisting of a strong African-American lead and of a strong women lead which was kind of in fashion back in the 70's with films like Alien and Halloween.

Because its a zombie film its going to have enormous amounts of gore, blood & great make up effects. All done by legend make-up artist Tom Savini. The effects look pretty real it but will bother most people. Its not for the faint of heart. The only problem with the effects is that the zombies look kind of blue sometimes when their supposed to be gray. Bad lighting contributed to this. But for me doesn't ruin the experience.

The original music is done by Goblin & supervised by Dario Argento. It beautifully matches the film to give it a great atmosphere with some gothic tones at times. They had previously scored Supspiria that is one of the best horror scores. Also there is a lot of library tracks in the film that sound corny to many but add to the whole fun of the film. Anybody that is generally into camp wont mind.

A masterpiece in its own right, Dawn of the Dead is still considered one of the best and of highest quality horror films ever made. Seeing this film is mandatory to any movie buff. Blood, gore, social commentary, satirical/slapstick comedy and some of the best zombie effects.The film has got it all. It's one of those landmark films that cant be missed. Because when there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth!

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

To start out the horror reviews I decided where else than George A. Romero zombie series. First up is the Night of the Living Dead. Romero's first big hit that put him on the map. When the film was first released as with other horror films of the time, it was said to be too violent and that people couldn’t take it. That’s same they said about The Exorcist and Alien later on. Once released it became an instant hit.

The plot is simple and familiar to viewers even casually acquainted with the genre. The dead come to life, attacking the living in order to feed upon their flesh. Some survivors shack up in a old house trying to survive the zombies. But as they find out it’s not going to be that easy because they have to first settle their differences in time before the zombie have them for dinner.

As in most Romero films and primarily his zombie films he puts always a little social commentary or satire. In this film the social commentary comes from the character of Ben that is played by a African American. This is the first starring role for an African American in a horror film. Actually it was not intended. In the script Romero didn't specify what the character ethnicity was. So when he was choosing actors the best actor he knew he cast. By chance he was African American. But the social commentary that was in the intended was that how humanity cannot work together with simplest of problems. As we see in the film everybody wants to look out for themselves and save their hind. This is common theme throughout the Dead series.

But it’s not only the social commentary. Romero manages with b&w photography to make this into a really creepy film for its time. He managed to create a whole sub-genre of horror with the zombies. This was one of the first films to have gory material of people eating other people. To viewers now everything might seem a bit fake and cheesy. But you have to give these films some slack. They were low budget with un-experienced actors and crew. They didn’t have Hollywood money. So their efforts should be praised, because the end result whole lot of more of zombie films, good and bad.

Now a warning to anyone interested in seeing this film. Beware, because their are number of DVD editions of this film and versions of this film. The best is the Millennium Edition on DVD. The problem is that co-writer John Russo later on made 20 minutes more of footage, re-edited the film and put a new score. In so many words he butchered the film. The butchered version is called the 20^th anniversary edition. So stay away from that.

Night of the Living Dead is a cult classic, the start of my favourite horror film genre of Zombie films and wonderful zombie film. This film deserves viewing to see how the zombie genre really started and the magnificence in Romero's handling of a horror film, that differed quite a lot from the usually horror films of the time and in a way differs a lot with the horror films of today by possessing a story and more importanly some meaning.

Paranormal Activity (2009)

Η Katie και ο Micah, μετακομίζουν σε ένα καινούργιο σπίτι στο Σαν Ντιέγκο, όπου θα μπορέσουν να ζήσουν αρμονικά το υπόλοιπο της ζωής τους. Παρ' όλα αυτά, το νέο τους σπίτι κρύβει ένα μυστήριο συγκάτοικο, που από την αρχή κάνει αισθητή την παρουσία του και δείχνει ξεκάθαρα πως δεν συμπαθεί τους νέους του συνιδιοκτήτες..Η Katie πιστεύει πως αυτό που γίνεται δεν είναι τυχαίο, μιας και ισχυρίζεται πως από μικρή την “παρακολουθούσαν” εκδικητικά πνεύματα. Όλα αυτά λοιπόν κάνουν το ζευγάρι να επιθυμεί την άμεση λύση στο πρόβλημα αυτό. Έτσι, καλούν έναν ειδικό στα μεταφυσικά φαινόμενα και όταν αυτός καταλήγει στο ότι δεν είναι σε θέση να κάνει τίποτα και ότι το πνεύμα είναι πολύ ισχυρό, ο Micah παίρνει την κατάσταση στα χέρια του. Με έναν πανάκριβο εξοπλισμό, αποτελούμενο από κάμερες,μικρόφωνα κ.τ.λ επιθυμεί να καταγράψει την συμπεριφορά του φαντάσματος / δαίμονα. Όλα πάνε σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο, μέχρι που μπαίνει στο παιχνίδι ένα Ouija board , που φέρνει την περιπέτεια τους στα άκρα..

Η Κριτική:

Όλα αυτά σίγουρα σας θυμίζουν πολλές ταινίες. Η αλήθεια είναι πως σεναριακά τα έχουμε ξαναδεί σε πάρα πολλές ταινίες του είδους. Όμως δεν θέλω να μείνω κολλημένος σε αυτό το χαρακτηριστικό, μιας και κακά τα ψέματα, στις ταινίες αυτές το να πρωτοτυπήσεις είναι σχεδόν το ίδιο δύσκολο με τον τετραγωνισμό του κύκλου..Το Paranormal Activity το ήξερε καλά αυτό και παρ' όλα αυτά δεν θέλησε να αλλάξει κάτι. Κατά την γνώμη μου έκανε πάρα πολύ καλά!

Από την αρχή της ταινίας καταλαβαίνει κανείς και μάλιστα πολύ εύκολα, πως το στυλ της αγγίζει αυτό του Blair Witch, μόνο που εδώ δεν είμαστε σε ένα απόκοσμο δάσος, αλλά σε ένα τυπικό αμερικάνικο σπίτι. Το ότι την θυμίζει τόσο πολύ δεν με έκανε να δω το όλο εγχείρημα με αρνητική μάτια, μιας και το όλο σκηνικό με την κάμερα που ακολουθεί τους πρωταγωνιστές σε ότι και αν κάνουν και με την εντύπωση του ότι αυτό που βλέπεις είναι αληθινό, εξυπηρετούν σχεδόν το 80% του απώτερου σκοπού των ταινιών του είδους.

Σκηνοθετικά έχω να πω πολύ καλά λόγια, μιας και σε όλη την διάρκεια της ταινίας, οι επιλογές των πλάνων σε έκαναν να μένεις παγωμένος στην θέση σου, περιμένοντας το χειρότερο να συμβεί. Το μόνο λάθος κατά την γνώμη μου ήταν η μεγάλη διάρκεια των αρχικών σκηνών, που προσωπικά με έκαναν να κοιτάω την ώρα, περιμένοντας να συμβεί κάτι για να με κρατήσει στην οθόνη. Όμως εκεί που λες ότι δεν θα παιχτεί και τίποτα το ιδιαίτερο, ξεκινούν οι απανωτές καλές σκηνές και αναρωτιέσαι αν πρέπει να κοιτάξεις η όχι..

Έχουμε να κάνουμε επίσης με δυο αρκετά καλούς ηθοποιούς θα έλεγα, που με τον τρόπο τους δίνουν μια πάρα πολύ ρεαλιστική χροιά στην ταινία και επίσης με την χημεία που έχουν καταφέρνουν να μετατρέψουν το όλο σενάριο σε ένα οικογενειακό βίντεο. Αυτοί αποτελούν και το 99% του cast της ταινίας με μοναδική εξαίρεση των επιθεωρητή μεταφυσικής δραστηριότητας και την φίλη της Katie, κάτι που κάνει ακόμα πιο δύσκολο τον ρόλο τους. Η μουσική της ταινίας από την άλλη δεν είναι κάτι το ιδιαίτερο και το μόνο που κάνει είναι να συνοδεύει το όλο εγχείρημα εκεί που χρειάζεται.

Το Paranormal Activity δεν είναι το υπέρτατο θρίλερ, δεν είναι καν μια από τις καλύτερες προσπάθειες που έχουν γίνει στον χώρο του τρόμου. Είναι όμως μια πάρα πολύ αξιόλογη δουλειά, που αν δεν είχε πάρει το τόσο hype όλο αυτό το καιρό, θα έμπαινε με μεγαλύτερη αυτοπεποίθηση στις κινηματογραφικές αίθουσες και όχι με σκοπό του να αυτοαποδειχθει.

Εδώ μπαίνει και το άλλο θέμα. Πολλοί μπορεί να δουν την ταινία αυτή και λόγω του ιδιαίτερου στυλ της να μην τρομάξουν, η να μείνουν με την απογοήτευση της Thriller- ιστικης μετριότητας.. Ειλικρινά πιστεύω ότι αυτό είναι θέμα εμπειριών και προσωπικού γούστου πάνω από όλα και σε καμιά περίπτωση δεν θα έπρεπε να κρίνεται έτσι μια ταινία.

Κλείνοντας έχω να πω ότι το Paranormal Activity θα σας κάνει πολύ καλή εντύπωση, είτε είστε λάτρεις των ταινιών αυτών, είτε όχι και πιστεύω πως θα δώσει κάποια θετικά στοιχειά ακόμα και στους φανατικούς του τρόμου. Όσοι λοιπόν επιθυμείτε κάτι που θα σας σηκώσει την τρίχα δεν έχετε πάρα να περιμένετε να βγει στους κινηματογράφους .Οι υπόλοιποι αξίζει να του δώσετε μια ευκαιρία..

Any zombie film that comes out to the cinemas is always on the top of my list for me to to go see. As a big zombie fan and lover of all Romero zombie films and the film Shaun of the Dead. I always await to see what somebody else has in their mind to the zombie genre. How will they change it or spice it up. Well Zombieland does neither, it’s just a plain comedic horror film that passes along too quickly with very simple and mundane meanings and with very few great jokes to count.

In Zombieland we follow 4 characters. All named after cities because they don’t care about who they are, but where there going. First we meet up with Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) who is your classic nerd, who before the zombie apocalypse had no friends and after still has no friends. Then there’s Tennessee (Woody Harrelson) who is the best zombie killer out there and is on the search for the last Twinkie. The last two, are the sisters Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) who both are two strong girls determined to survive and believe there’s a place somewhere without zombies. They all meet up and go on there adventure. In a sense its road trip film that happens to have zombies and be at the same time about a dysfunctional new family.

The film has gotten many positive reviews and audiences seem to be enjoying it as well. What puzzles me is, what was the biggest impression that this film made upon them? Except for a cameo and a joke about Tennessee and his dog there’s nothing more that impressed me. Comedic elements are too little with amateur dialogue, the action is mediocre with the set pieces of killing zombies being too little and not very inventive as i would hope. For a horror film, its not very gory and as a zombie film its kind of disappointing. It adds nothing to the zombie lore. No new ideas, no interesting plot devices, they don't really even care that much that zombies are out there. The zombies really aren't characters themselves as portrayed in the film. Yes they are dead and lifeless. But their suppose to symbolize and mean something. Something that this film forgot completely of.

Most of my problems with film was that they didnt do enough to make it a better film. Its as if they said "we couldn't make it any better". But thing is you could. The film has no purpose, the characters were all uninteresting to me except Tennessee where he had all the best jokes. As for Jesse Eisenberg he seems to be playing the same guy in every film. The geek. The last three films Ive seen with him, i would have said he was the same character because its the way he plays it is practicely the same for each role. As for the girls they really had nothing to do. Everything seemed too simple. It needed more jokes, more gore and more character development. All of these problems, they never realized it during production.

The zombie genre has been getting very fashionable lately. With more movies and videogames coming up, zombies seem to be cool and they are for good reasons. But its not easy making a good Zombie film. The zombie genre isn’t remembered that much for its classics. Zombieland is just another example of people who love horror films and zombie films and thought it was a good idea to make a film without any meaning or an deep story. With films like these I just get disappointed at the lack of effort. It is a fun film but its too casual, clichéd and mediocre. Better off seeing Shaun of the Dead that is a true testament of love towards zombie films and the horror/comedy genre. Zombieland is nothing more than a horror film for the casual crowd that didn't have enough the balls to make into a more provocative and funny film.

Τέσσερις αταίριαστοι χαρακτήρες συναντιούνται σε έναν κόσμο που έχουν κυριαρχήσει τα ζόμπι. Παρά τους διαφορετικούς κώδικες του καθενός και την έλλειψη εμπιστοσύνης, θα ενωθούν προσπαθώντας να μείνουν ζωντανοί και να βρούν ένα ασφαλές καταφύγιο..

Κριτική:

Μια απο τις πάγιες απόψεις με τις οποίες μεγάλωσα είναι οτι “δεν μπορεί να φτιαχτεί καλή κωμωδία βασισμένη σε ζόμπι”. Ίσως παίρνω πολύ στα σοβαρα τη συγκεκριμένη κατηγορία τρόμου, πάντως δε μπορούσα να διακρίνω κάποια δυνατότητα να βγει γέλιο απο αυτή, κάτι που- ίσως θεωρηθώ παράξενος- συνεχίστηκε και μετά το πετυχημένο για πολλούς Shaun of the dead. Κι όμως, η αλήθειά είναι οτι παρότι προκατειλημμένος, καταδιασκέδασα με το Zombieland.

Το story απλό, παρόμοιο με αυτά των αντίστοιχων ταινιών τρόμου. Μέσα σε αυτό έχει χτίσει 4 πολύ καλούς χαρακτήρες ο συνδυασμός των οποίων δημιουργεί αρκετές κωμικές καταστάσεις, αλλά ακόμα και συγκίνηση σε μερικές στιγμές. Το καλό είναι ακριβώς το οτι επικεντρώνεται στους πρωταγωνιστές, τις διασκεδαστικές ατάκες και διαλόγους τους, και δευτερευόντως στα ζόμπι, απο τα οποία προς ευχάριστη έκπληξη μου δεν προσπαθεί με καφρίλες να βγάλει γέλιο, κάτι που θα μπορούσε να έχει δυσάρεστα αποτελέσματα, απλά τα χρησιμοποιεί για να χτίσει την ιστορία και να βάλει λίγο δράση.

Η σκηνοθεσία είναι καλή, αποφεύγει να κάνει τρομακτική την ταινία καθως λείπουν σχεδόν τελείως τα πετάγματα και η ατμόσφαιρα των αμιγώς τρόμου ταινιών. Φυσικά κάποιος εντελώς αμύητος στο είδος θα νιώσει μάλλον άβολα σε αρκετές σκηνές καθώς το σπλάτερ δε λείπει, και δε θα μπορούσε άλλωστε, αλλά αν γενικά ασχολείστε με αυτό έστω και λίγο θα καταλάβετε τη διαφορά στη σκηνοθεσία, καθώς στο Zombieland τα πράγματα είναι πολύ πιο χαλαρά, η κάμερα σπάνια κινείται απότομα και με διάφορα τρίκ προσπαθεί να ενισχύσει την κωμική πλευρά της ταινίας παρά το αίμα που ρέει αφθονο.

Οι ηθοποιοί είναι κατά τη γνώμη μου το κύριο ατού της ταινίας. Συνδυάζονται άψογα με το σενάριο και φτιάχνουν απολαυστικούς χαρακτήρες. Ειδικά οι δυο άντρες της τετράδας, Jesse Eisenberg και Woody Harrelson, ο πρώτος σαν αντικοινωνικός έφηβος και ο δεύτερος σαν κάφρος cowboy δίνουν ρέστα με δύο σοβαροφανείς αλλά αστείες ερμηνείες, χωρίς υπερβολές και γκριμάτσες προς εκμαίευση γέλιου. Ένα πέρασμα από την ταινία κάνει και ο Bill Murray (Spoiler) παίζοντας τον εαυτό του(!).

Τελικό συμπέρασμα: Το Zombieland είναι μια απρόσμενα καλή και διασκεδαστική ταινία, όχι ιδιαίτερα τρομακτική παρά τη θεματολογία της, και απευθύνεται σε ενα πιο διευρυμένο κοινό από αυτό των παραδοσιακών ταινιών με ζόμπι. Αν δεν έχετε λοιπόν μεγάλο πρόβλημα με το σπλάτερ σας το συστήνω, 19 Νοεμβρίου έρχεται στη χώρα μας, και ελπίζω πως θα περάσετε 87 ευχάριστα λεπτά ακολουθώντας το ταξίδι και τις περιπέτειες των πρωταγωνιστών στην ερειπωμένη Zombieland..

Ιστορία

Ένα ζευγάρι, έχοντας χάσει πρόσφατα το 3ο παιδί που περίμενε, υιοθετεί την 9χρονη χαρισματική Έσθερ από ένα ορφανοτροφείο. Στην αρχή όλα φαντάζουν ειδυλλιακά, κάποια περίεργα περιστατικά και συμπεριφορές όμως κάνουν τη νέα της μητέρα να υποψιάζεται οτι η Έσθερ δεν είναι αυτό που φαίνεται..



Κριτική

Συνεχίζοντας την αναζήτηση για μια αξιόλογη ταινία τρόμου μετά απο αρκετές μετριότητες και κοινοτυπίες, η προσοχή μου στράφηκε στο προσφάτως αφιχθέν Orphan. Ξεκίνησα λοιπόν να το βλέπω, κάπως επιφυλακτικά ομολογώ, αλλά τελικά πολλές απο τις αμφιβολίες μου αποδείχτηκαν αβάσιμες. Ας δούμε τα πράγματα πιό αναλυτικα.



Το σενάριο, αν και αρκετά στρωτό, με μια πρώτη ματιά φαίνεται συνηθισμένο, τίποτα που δεν έχει ξαναδεί ένας φαν του είδους. Εντούτοις, τελικά κρύβει μερικές ευχάριστες εκπλήξεις και περιέχει μια-δυο πρωτότυπες ιδέες που το κάνουν να ξεχωρίσει απο το σωρό. Απο την άλλη μεριά, λίγα σεναριακά κενά και υπερβολές που υπάρχουν δεν είναι κάτι τρομερό, με την έννοια οτι ελάχιστα επηρεάζουν τη γενική εικόνα της ταινίας. Προσωπικά αυτό που με χάλασε ήταν η προπαγανδιστική αίσθηση που αφήνει η Ρώσικη καταγωγή του “αλλόκοτου” κοριτσιού, καθως έχει παρατηρηθεί και στο παρελθόν το κακό να ταυτίζεται με ανατολικοευρωπαικές ή μεσανατολικές χώρες σε αμερικάνικες ταινίες τρόμου..



Η σκηνοθεσία είναι πολύ καλή. Αξιοποιεί στο έπακρο το σενάριο, και δημιουργεί την κατάλληλη ατμόσφαιρα. Δεν αποφεύγει βέβαια κάποιες ευκολίες και τυπικότητες του είδους για να τρομάξει τον θεατή, αλλα τουλάχιστον τις χρησιμοποιεί με μέτρο, έτσι ωστε να μην κλέβουν την παράσταση από μερικές πραγματικά καλογυρισμένες ατμοσφαιρικές σκηνές και τη γενικότερη προσεγμένη αισθητική της ταινίας. Εξάλλου, προς αποφυγή παρεξηγήσεων, πρόκειται κυρίως για θρίλερ αγωνίας, και όχι για σπλάτερ τρόμου όπως ίσως σκεφτούν κάποιοι.



Στον τομέα των ερμηνειών, θα προσπεράσω τους Vera Farmiga και Peter Sarsgaard οι οποίοι ήταν ικανοποιητικοί στους ρόλους των γονέων, και θα περάσω στην μόλις 12 χρονών πρωταγωνίστρια Isabelle Fuhrman η οποία κράτησε την ταινία πάνω της και τα κατάφερε μια χαρά, σε βαθμό να αναρωτιέσαι αν στην πραγματικότητα είναι φυσιολογική ή έχει το ανατριχιαστικό βλέμμα της ταινίας! Για του λόγου το αληθές, στο αρχικό σενάριο η Έσθερ περιγραφόταν ως ένα ξανθό κορίτσι με χαριτωμένα χαρακτηριστικά ωστόσο η οντισιόν της Isabelle τους έκανε να της δωσουν το ρόλο παρότι δεν ταίριαζε στο αρχικό μοτίβο. Ελπίζω να μας απασχολήσει και στο μέλλον και να μην ακολουθήσει την φθίνουσα πορεία των περισσότερων “παιδιών θαυμάτων” του χώρου.



Εν κατακλείδι, η ταινία με εξέπληξε ευχάριστα. Πιστεύω ότι οι περισσότεροι οπαδοί του είδους, όχι απαραίτητα του τρόμου αλλα και του μυστηρίου και της αγωνίας οπως προανέφερα, θα μείνουν ευχαριστημένοι. Με μερικές αλλαγές στο σενάριο θα μπορούσε να είναι μια ταινία που έμενε αρκετό καιρό στο προσκήνιο, αλλά ακόμα κι έτσι την συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα για να περάσετε δύο παρα κάτι διασκεδαστικές ωρες.

Now Antichrist didn’t help me at all on changing my opinion on Lars Von Trier. After Dogville which I wasn't fond of, I found now a new film to dislike even more and it’s called Antichrist. You can take this film in any way you want. Because many have. Few have characterized it as an incredible masterpiece others as garbage. Ill go with the second.

A couple called He (Willem Dafoe) and She (Charlotte Gainsbourg) go to a cabin in the woods after their son’s death. She confronting her grief He tries his best at soothing her pain as a therapist. But the woods and she hold many secrets and visions and horrific events will affect this couple dearly.

The film starts of with a beautiful b&w sequence where their child dies and you’re left with the impression hmm this film looks good, artistic lets see where it takes us. Then from a grief story it goes into the realm of sadistic, grotesque, misogynist nonsense. The story goes on that she takes pills, then she had a thesis paper about evil women, then something about religion. Does any of this matter or make sense? No. Things let just say happen in the woods and they are freaky and have no explanation.

If you think American horror slasher films go to far and and that their audience is a bunch amoral morons, here comes same crap from a cultured European director that does the same for a bunch people looking for needle in the haystack to find a meaning when blood and all kinds of other filth is happening on screen. The scenes in the film are probably the most outrageous, provocative ive seen yet in a film. All extreme to make audience feel what? And I ask again what? And I cant even say the atrocities because they are so offensive towards women especially, also audiences and animals and I'm not kidding.

How more self indulgent can  Mr. Von Trier be and I quote he said:

“Antichrist was filmed and finished without much enthusiasm, made as it was using about half of my physical and intellectual capacity.” 

Because of his depression he said this. Really? So if you weren’t depressed you would have made a masterpiece. Come on. Did he really have to say that? And this is before he said at the Cannes film festival

“I am the best film director in the world” “All the others are overrated, so that’s quite simple.” 

After the film had gotten bad press he said all of this. Lars Von Trier you would be the best director, maybe if your ego didn’t foreshadow your talent. Also how could you not be a misogynist or called one? After Dogville and now Antichrist how the hell could any woman see one of your films with a opened mind.

To conclude many might wonder and say I don’t like artistic films. That I don’t get them and that I just like comic book movies. Well no. I like artsy stuff just not self indulgent crap from egoists who try to play it cool and give a slow paced film with no true story, terrible violent acts and with meanings that don’t attract or satisfy me. I love David Lynch, I enjoy Fellini films, I adore Chaplin but Lars Von Trier you’re just overrated. Antichrist has good performances, a great opening and some interesting visuals. Even if the film was underlined with layers of glorious messages it still doesn’t make this into a good film in my opinion. If you’re not into cultural artistic European cinema don’t even bother seeing this film.

P.S. This is my opinion. This not a attack to Von Trier fans. It's just my opinion on the man and his work. Anybody who likes the film is entitled to their opinion as well. Art is to the eye of the beholder. To one can be glorious and masterful to another garbage and a waste. Can something be both? Of course it can. So enjoy!
