Muammar Gaddafi's son says the Libyan leader would agree to internationally supervised elections on the condition that there be no vote-rigging.
Saif Gaddafi says the elections could be held within three months, or at the latest by the end of the year. Transparency could be guaranteed with the presence of international observers such as the African Union or the United Nations.
Meanwhile, a series of loud blasts rocked central Tripoli early in the morning and smoke could be seen rising above Gaddafi's fortified compound. Outside the capital, rebel fighters and Gaddafi's forces have clashed once again in a day of extreme fighting in and around Dafniya.
In recent days rebel forces have advanced along the Mediterranean coast toward Zlitan. Asides from these advances, the rebels say they were instructed by NATO to withdraw from around Dafniya ahead of expected bombing runs.
