The Room (2003)

director: Tommy Wiseau

writer: Tommy Wiseau

starring: Tommy Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero

genre: Drama

Have you ever seen a film where it's so bad that you wonder how was it even possible for it to be created? Time after time you see bad films and you can detect where and why it's bad. You can give it even a little respect due to the fact that it was made in bad taste and for it's professional filmmaking that was at least present. This film is not like that, not even close. It's a film with countless of mistakes, that amateur film students wouldn't even be capable of ever coming close to accomplishing. Watching this film will give you courage in knowing that you will never suck as bad as the man who is behind this monstrosity Tommy Wiseau.

The story is of Johnny (Tommy Wiseau) and his soon to be wife Lisa (Juliette Danielle). Everything seems to be going fine for them until Lisa starts acting weird. Johnny has a great job at the bank, great house and friends. Suddenly Lisa starts getting tired of Johnny and needs to escape the "boring" relationship. She cheats on Johnny with his best friend Mark (Greg Sestero). She also spreads lies to her friends and family about Johnny to ruin them. In the meantime Johnny has to counsel his friend and like son Danny and cope with a probable job promotion and girlfriend problems.

Now with a film as bad as this its good to start with the man fully responsible for the mess Tommy Wiseau. He wrote, directed, produced and played Johnny in the film. All of what he did from start to finish can only be characterized as horrendous to god awful. His acting is terrible and amateur. The way his accent and voice falls apart with every line, the way he try's to be emotional in scenes and which you don't buy it not even for a second. The rest of the cast manage to be bearable for the only reason that they don't have a strange accent and don't overact there parts as much as Wiseau.

Also there is the story that is told in a completely unique way. Unique at being completely mind blowingly odd. It's all about Johnny and his crazy girlfriend who by her acts in the film must be a psychopath. With no apparent reason she has an affair, calls Johnny a terrible and boring person, lies about him and then when everybody knows about the affair still believes shes doing the right thing. How dumb was Johnny to be with her in the first place. Many of her acts and behavior in the film make no sense. Most of the characters actions in the film actually don't make any sense at all. Denny's drug problem, Lisa's best friend having sex at her home, Mark's sudden ignorance towards his friendship with Johnny and behavior towards his other friends in the film. And then theres Lisa mother who says she has breast cancer and it is never once more mentioned in the film as that wasn't important enough to effect her daughters life.

Besides the acting and the odd things the script has there is also the direction and filmmaking of Wiseau. Wiseau chooses to dub a huge part of the film and you can blatantly see that the audio doesn't match the lips. Then they are the plot holes and weird artistic choices Wiseau makes. He makes Johnny play all the time football with his friends and every time in a different place for no apparent reason. There is a change in actor half way through the film, people acting odd just to act odd, multiple sex scenes that are on the level of soft core porn and the list goes on and on.

Take my word, this is one of the worst films ever made. Tommy Wiseau tried to get himself saved by saying that it was intentionally made as a comedy. But it isn't that easy to get away with it, as people in the production coughed up that it was intentionally drama and a film for him to show off his acting. So sorry Wiseau you got served. This film should be avoided at all costs if you don't want to see trash at work. People should just see a couple clips that I will put up and thats it. Otherwise if your in the mood to laugh at bad filmmaking, acting and story than try the Room out. But be warned. Here we have a film made by someone with no talent whatsoever and no clear mind of understand that filmmaking is a art form to be taken seriously.
