The biggest movie news of the past week

27/09/2010 to 3/10/2010

The Hobbit in Eastern Europe?

I believe everybody already knows that the Lord of the Rings films were are all filmed in the beautiful country of New Zealand. Everybody presumed that the prequel the Hobbit would follow suit. But due to some developments things might change location to some Eastern European country. In New Zealand now many crew unions and workers have gone on strike categorizing Peter Jackson for bad payments and other things which I personally didn't understand. Also the Actors union of New Zealand said they will not act in the new film if wages aren't the same as their counterparts in Australia. Seems to me that they should have asked these things closer to a production date to squeeze Peter Jackson and MGM into giving in. Now with what they've done I'm afraid they wont be accomplishing anything.

Spiderman vs. Venom

With the Spider-Man reboot coming close to production rumors have already begun about plot elements. This might be fact or rumor but reports suggest that the reboots first villain is Venom. First of all let me say that it is a terrible idea. It's not really starting fresh after Spider-Man 3. Second if this is a origin story then Venom is a terrible choice once again and bad for fans of the comics and third it's just a plain dumb choice. Starting over with a new Green Goblin would be best for all.

Star Wars 3D

After many rumors of this happening it's been finally announced. Star Wars 3D will happen. If seeing Star Wars one time wasn't enough and the second time with a special edition cut wasn't enough still, now we will have the chance to see a 3D theatrical release of Star Wars. Yuppie!

Sally Menke Passes Away

I don't believe many people to know this name but she was one of cinema's best film editors. Sally Menke may not have worked on many films, but she did on all of Quentin Tarantino's directed films. She passed away this past week at the age of 56.

Confirmation of Nolan directing Batman 3

This is not news that we didn't expect to hear. But final confirmation was announced that Christopher Nolan will be directing Batman 3. The same thing had happened with The Dark Knight and everyone panicked. Now we can go back to sleep at night safe and sound.

Tony Curtis Passes Away

I'm going to end on a sad note. Famous Hollywood actor Tony Curtis passed away. He was known for his famous roles in the films in Some Like it Hot and Operation Petticoat. He passed away at the age of 85. One of his daughters is famous actress Jamie Lee Curtis of Halloween fame.
