Spider-Man 4 no more!

Big big news people. For a while now Sony seemed determined to move ahead with another Sam Raimi directed Spider-Man, but things seem to have changed now. Sony has pulled the plug on the project completely. Sony at first, through Twitter stated that the franchise will get a reboot. With Peter Parker back in high school. Afterwards a official statement did come out.

official statement from Sony:

"Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager dealing with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises. The new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team.Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.

"Spider-Man will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films. As we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."

Now based on the recent news. There are an couple things I needed to comment on. First, Sam Raimi was very unlucky with Spider-Man 3. We did blame him too much for it. But it was studio pressure that made him creatively change things that he didn't want to partake in. Examples are he didn't want Venom, Sandman was to have a bigger story. Not that the dancing Peter Parker wasnt his fault. So here, the same thing happens once again. But Raimi doesn't want to go threw the same situation. Sony instead of giving him the chance in my opinion he deserved. Just go for the reboot of the franchise. But what does this all mean? We already did get a origin story, and 2 great Spidey films out of the 3. Can they really outdue Raimi's Spider-Man films? Which are loved and critically acclaimed. Time will tell and expectations will vary, depending on whoever tackles the new films. Lets keep are fingers crossed, that someone with talent gets the chance. Because we all saw what happened when an talentless person takes hold of a franchise like Fantastic Four. He turns into crap.

Farewell Sam Raimi from Spider-Man. We loved you. We hated you, but in the end you deserved a second chance with Spider-Man 4. Good luck on World of Warcraft.
