Θέλω να ξεκινήσω, λέγοντας σας ότι είχα καιρό να δω τέτοια ταινία και με αυτό εννοώ μια ταινία που να μην φοβάται να συγκριθεί με άλλες ταινίες/μεγαθήρια του είδους.Το L'instinct de mort ή Death Instinct άν θέλετε, αποτελεί το πρώτο μέρος εκ των δύο της κινηματογραφικής μεταφοράς της βιογραφίας του διάσημου στην γαλλία γκάνγκστερ/κλέφτη/αρτίστα του εγκλήματος Ζακ Μερίν ή Μεσρίν όπως συνήθιζαν να τον αποκαλούν.

Η Ιστορία :

Το πρώτο αυτό μέρος, μας ταξιδεύει χρονικά στην ζωή της μεγάλης εγκληματικής φυσιογνωμίας που ακούει στο όνομα Ζακ Μεσρίν, από την περίοδο του πολέμου της Αλγερίας, μέχρι τις αρχές του '70 στην Γαλλία.Μια ζωή γεμάτη από περιπέτειες και όσον αφορά την σχέση με την οικογένειά του, όπως επίσης και με την ζωή στην κλειστή τότε κοινωνία της Γαλλίας όπου οι ευκαιρίες ήταν ελάχιστες.Ένα ταξίδι όπου ούτε και ο ίδιος ο Μεσρίν έχει προσχεδιάσει και κάθε του κίνηση εξελίσσεται στην πορεία.

Η Κριτική :

Το L'instinct de mort δεν ανήκει στις σινεφιλιές όπως πολλοί νομίζουν, μόνο και μόνο επειδή είναι γαλλική, αλλά ανήκει στο είδος των ταινιών που σημάδεψαν τον κινηματογράφο λόγω των καταπληκτικών ερμηνειών, του πολύ καλά δομημένου σεναρίου και φυσικά των πολύ έντονων σκηνών δράσης, που (όπως το είδος επιβάλλει) κάνουν αισθητή την παρουσία τους από τις πρώτες κιόλας σκηνές.

Ο Jean Francois Richet δεν διστάζει να ξεκινήσει το ταξίδι του Μεσρίν δίνοντας ρετρό αισθητκή στις λήψεις του, δημιουργώντας ένα κλίμα που λίγοι μπορούν να αποδώσουν τόσο καλά και πέρα από αυτό, στην πορεία της ιστορίας δεν φοβάται να παίξει γρήγορα με τις αλλαγές των σκηνικών και καταστάσεων, όπως και με τα διάφορα φίλτρα της κάμερας, κάτι που κατά την γνώμη μου είναι αρκετά επίφοβο και μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε ασάφειες και σεναριογραφικά κενά.

Ο Cassel από την άλλη, δείχνει την κλάση του στο κινηματογραφικό σανίδι και θυμίζωντας μου μεγάλα ονόματα του χώρου, καταφέρνει να φέρει την ταινία σε πολύ υψηλά επίπεδα, αλλάζοντας διάθεση και εκφράσεις κατά την πορεία της, χωρίς να απογοητεύσει ούτε να φανεί ψεύτικος.Προσωπικά θεωρώ τον Cassel έναν πολύ ταλαντούχο ηθοποιό, που άν είχε γεννηθεί στην Αμερική θα είχε πάρει την αναγνώριση που του αξίζει απο το ευρύ κοινό και δεν θα περιοριζόταν στον χώρο των σινεφίλ και των “ψαγμένων” φοιτητών.Οι περισσότεροι τον γνώρισαν από το άκρως πολιτικοποιημένο La Haine όπου έκλεψε την παράσταση.Εδώ είναι ακόμα πιο ώριμος και πιο επαγγελματίας δίνοντας υποσχέσεις για πολλά ακόμα στο μέλλον.

Η ταινία αλλάζει προσωπεία και μεταπηδά από είδος σε είδος ανάλογα με την διάθεση και τις περιπέτειες του Μεσρίν, θυμίζοντας μας πότε ταινίες παρακολούθησης και αγνού ρεαλισμού και άλλοτε βγάζει το πιο ωμό της πρόσωπο με πιο γκανγκστερικά και old-school σκηνικά.Τα κλισέ έχουν πολύ μικρό ρόλο στην όλη πορεία της ταινίας και όπου παρατηρούνται, σε κάνουν να βαδίσεις μαζί τους χωρίς τον παραμικρό δισταγμό.

Η μουσική της ταινίας είναι μινιμαλιστική και άκρως συνοδευτική, με αποτέλεσμα να δίνει έμφαση στα κυριότερα σημεία της πλοκής καλύπτωντας με ένα αέρινο πέπλο την σκοτεινή προσωπικότητα του μεγάλου εγκληματία.

Κλείνοντας, θέλω να πω ότι το L'instinct de mort θα σας εντυπωσιάσει, ακόμα και αν δεν είστε συνηθισμένοι σε τέτοιου είδους ταινίες, μιας και η ειλικρίνεια που εκπέμπει, μαζί με την εξαιρετική ηθοποιία του Cassel θα σας κρατήσουν πολύ καλή συντροφιά τις 2 παρά κάτι ώρες που διαρκεί και στο τέλος θα συμπάσχετε με τον πρωταγωνιστή και θα περιμένετε με ανυπομονησία το δεύτερο μέρος της.

Εκεί που το Scarface συναντά τους Goodfellas, βρίσκεται το L'instinct de mort, με σκοπό του να μείνει στις καρδιές όλων σαν ένα μικρό διαμάντι του σινεμά.

Ο Jason Statham επιστρέφει στο ρόλο του Chev Chelios στη συνέχεια της άκρως επιτυχημένης πρώτης ταινίας, όπου όπως θυμόμαστε έπρεπε να κρατάει την αδρεναλίνη του στα ύψη για να μην πεθάνει. Έ λοιπόν στην νέα ταινία κάτι τρελοί κινέζοι του αντικαθιστούν την καρδιά με μια τεχνητή χωρίς τη θέλησή του. Και έτσι ξεκινάει η αναζήτηση και το κυνήγι της αληθινής σε ένα καταιγισμό ηλιθιότητας, ξύλου και σχιζοφρένειας με κατά διαστήματα φόρτιση της καρδιάς από καλώδια ρεύματος, υποσταθμούς, αναπτήρες αμαξιών αλλά και φυσικά με σεξ στη πίστα ιπποδρόμου γιατί όπως όλοι οι καλοί φοιτητές γνωρίζουμε με τη τριβή των σωμάτων παράγεται ηλεκτρισμός.

Με την σκηνοθεσία και τα άλλα στοιχεία δε πρόκειται να σας απασχολήσω γιατί δε θα είχε νόημα. Θα ασχοληθώ όμως με τον πρωταγωνιστή… Ο Jason Statham επιτέλους γύρισε στις ταινίες που τον έχουν χαρακτηρίσει και τον έχουν αναδείξει. Μετά από ένα άσχημο έτος με ταινίες όπως το Transporter 3 και Death Race, οι οποίες ήταν κάτω του τραγικού, το Crank έρχεται και αναγεννά την πίστη μου στον Statham, στον παρανοϊκό χαρακτήρα δηλαδή που πάντα ενσαρκώνει.

Όσο για την ταινία ως ταινία είναι τραγική και τραβηγμένη στα άκρα όσο δε φαντάζεστε. Δεν υπάρχει νόημα, πλοκή ή ροή. Αυτό όμως είναι και το δυνατό της κομμάτι γιατί αλλιώς θα μιλάγαμε για τη χειρότερη action movie στα χρονικά του κινηματογράφου.

Όποιος έχει δει την πρώτη ταινία τότε του συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα να τη δει, ασφαλώς και όχι στο σινεμά, και αφού πρώτα έχει εξαντλήσει τις ταινίες που θέλει να δει.

Αντίθετα όποιος δεν έχει γευτεί ακόμα την τρέλα της πρώτης ταινίας τότε μη διανοηθεί να περάσει κατευθείαν στη δεύτερη γιατί είναι σίγουρο ότι στο μισάωρο θα την έχει σταματήσει και θα προσπαθεί να ξεχάσει ότι είδε.

Εν κατακλείδι πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσετε αυτή τη μία ώρα και δεκαέξι λεπτά όχι ως ταινία αλλά ως θέατρο του παραλόγου. Αν το κάνετε τότε πιθανότατα θα περάσετε καλά.

Future Maters

Last year I didn't plant a garden and I hated myself for it all summer. This year I'm going to be too busy (lazy) to have a full sized garden so I pried open my wallet and bought three Grow Boxes. One for tomatoes, one for peppers and one for whatever Shelly wants, probably okra. I was going to get Earth Boxes but they were too expensive, went to a site on making your own and figured by the time I finally made them right, that too would be too expensive. Then I found this site the garden patch kind of expensive but if I use them year after year it's not much. I use to have "The Garden Report" and both of my readers liked it alright so I guess I'll do that again this year.

Synecdoche, New York (2008)

Υπάρχουν δύο κατηγορίες ανθρώπων / θεατών.Από την μία, αυτοί που απλά θέλουν κάτι το ανάλαφρο, κάτι που θα τους κάνει να περάσουν ευχάριστα την ώρα τους χωρίς να τους βάλει σε σκέψεις, προβληματισμούς και εν γένει να τους κουράσει πνευματικά. Από την άλλη έχουμε την κατηγορία αυτών που αναζητούν κάτι περισσότερο από μία κινηματογραφική εμπειρία. Αυτών που σε ένα έργο ζητούν το διαφορετικό, αυτό που θα τους οδηγήσει σε βαθύτερους τομέις της σκέψης και άν θέλετε και όπως συνηθίζω να λέω, θα τους κάνει καλύτερους ανθρώπους.

Ο λόγος που ξεκίνησα έτσι, θα γίνει κατανοητός στην πορεία της κριτικής μου για την ταινία και ελπίζω να σας προβάλλω την άποψη μου για αυτήν, όσο πιο αντικειμενικά γίνεται.





Η Ιστορία :

Επιτυχημένος θεατρικός σκηνοθέτης, συγκρούεται καθημερινά με τον εαυτό του, όπως επίσης και με τα πρόσωπα που τον περιτριγυρίζουν και απογοητευμένος από όλα με όσα η ζωή τον αγκαλιάζει, επιχειρεί να κάνει το θεατρικό του κρεσέντο, δίνοντας νόημα στην ζωή του λίγο πριν το τέλος της.





Η Κριτική:

Όσο και άν προσπαθήσετε να κατηγοριοποιήσετε αυτήν την ταινία, θα οδηγηθείτε σε αδιέξοδο και πιστέψτε με, στο τέλος της προσπάθειάς σας θα έχετε να κάνετε και με έναν ελαφρύ πονοκέφαλο.Ομολογώ ότι το στυλ των ταινιών αυτών είναι από τα αγαπημένα μου, μιας και κάθε λεπτό μιας τέτοιας ταινίας σου προσφέρει και κάτι διαφορετικό.

Στο Synecdoche, New York ,ο Κaufman σπάει για άλλη μια φορά τα δεσμά των τετριμμένων σεναρίων και της κοινότυπης παρουσίασης ενός θέματος, προβάλλωντας μας μια “πεντακάθαρη” και αληθινή ταινία και, πηγαίνοντας μας ένα βήμα παραπάνω από από τα ευφυέστατα “Αιώνια λιακάδα ενός καθαρού μυαλού” και “Στο μυαλό του Τζον Μάλκοβιτς” προσπαθώντας να δώσει εξηγήσεις για την ζωή του σήμερα.



Το Synecdoche, New York δεν είναι ταινία, αλλά ένας διαρκώς εξελισσόμενος οργανισμός, που με όσες δυνάμεις διαθέτει, προσπαθεί να βρει το νόημα της ύπαρξης του, αλλάζωντας προσωπεία και πορεία έχοντας στο νου του ότι το τέλος είναι κοντά.

Εδώ έχουμε τον Hoffman (Scent of a woman | 25th hour |Capote | Doubt), στον ρόλο του ευαίσθητου και συναισθηματικά φορτισμένου σκηνοθέτη, που, στο μεγαλύτερο εγχείρημα της ζωής του επιχειρεί να καταγράψει την πορεία του ανθρώπου προς τον θάνατο και να παρουσιάσει μέσω αυτού την ματαιότητα ορισμένων καταστάσεων που περνάμε όλοι μας κατά την διάρκεια της ζωής μας.



Σκηνοθετικά δεν έχω να πω και πολλά, μιας και σέβομαι απεριόριστα τον Kaufman και όποια ταινία έχει αγγίξει.Οι κάμερες στην ταινία είναι πότε αργές, με κύρια έμφαση στον χαρακτήρα και άλλοτε με σχετικά απότομες εναλλαγές μεταξύ των σκηνικών, βοηθώντας έτσι τον θεατή να “μπεί” στην δίνη συναισθημάτων που ο Kaufman έχει δημιουργήσει.

Το cast της ταινίας είναι άψογο.Στο Synecdoche θα δείτε πάρα πολλούς ηθοποιούς (πέρα των κεντρικών πρωταγωνιστών) και κομπάρσους, κάτι που με εντυπωσίασε όχι λόγω ποσότητας, αλλά λόγω του τέλειου στησίματος τους στην κάμερα, των άκρως ρεαλιστικών αντιδράσεων τους στα δρώμενα, όπως επίσης και στην εναλλαγή των ρόλων τους κατά την διάρκεια της πλοκής.

Την μουσική της ταινίας θα την χαρακτήριζα ως συνοδευτική, τοποθετημένη εκεί που πρέπει, κάτι που δίνει “αέρα” στις ερμηνείες και κάνει τον θεατή να ειχωρήσει ακόμα περισσότερο στο σενάριο.



Ξεκίνησα να σας λέω για τις δύο κατηγορίες θεατών και αυτό το έκανα μόνο και μόνο για να καταλήξω στο ότι το Synecdoche βρίσκεται κάπου στην μέση.Ο Kaufman επιχειρεί το μεγαλύτερο σκηνοθετικά ρίσκο της καριέρας του και καταφέρνει μέσω αυτού να ωριμάσει και ο ίδιος και με συνοδοιπόρους το άριστο cast της ταινίας κλείνει το ταξίδι του, αφήνοντάς μας στην σκέψη ότι αγωνιστήκαμε μέσα στην ύπαρξη και σιγά σιγά γλιστράμε προς την ανυπαρξία..

Μια ταινία που θα μας απασχολήσει και στο μέλλον κατά την γνώμη μου, μιας και έχει όλα τα φόντα για να αντέξει στον χρόνο και να δώσει κάτι παραπάνω στον χώρο της τέχνης.

* Όλοι οι ηθοποιοί “ντούμπλαραν” τον εαυτό τους, εκτός από τους Yehezkel Lazarov και Mickey Leon που “ντούμπλαραν” τους Carmi Cna'an και Boaz Rein-Buskila αντίστοιχα.

Λίγα λόγια και...σεβασμός.

Τρομερό. Συγκινητικό. Τεχνικά αψεγάδιαστο.

Νομίζω ότι με λόγια σε αυτό το μήκος κύματος θα μπορούσε κάποιος να μιλήσει για το “Waltz with Bashir”. Είναι πολύ ωραίο να διαβάζεις σε ένα site μια απλή αναφορά για μια νέα ταινία που μόλις άρχισε να προβάλλεται και αυτή η εν λόγω ταινία να αποδεικνύεται φανταστική. Μια τέτοια περίπτωση είναι και αυτή εδώ. Αλλά, μιλάω πολύ στον “αέρα”. Πιο συγκεκριμένα:

Ο Ari βασανίζεται από έναν εφιάλτη ο οποίος στοιχειώνει τον ύπνο του για πολύ καιρό. Ο εφιάλτης έχει άμεση σχέση με την περίοδο κατά την οποία πολεμούσε με τον Ισραηλινό στρατό στον πόλεμο του Λιβάνου. Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι στη μνήμη του υπάρχει ένα τεράστιο κενό το οποίο αφορά τον πόλεμο αυτό. Συζητώντας με παλιούς του φίλους, οι οποίοι έχουν συμμετάσχει στον ίδιο πόλεμο, προσπαθεί να ζωντανέψει πάλι αυτές του τις μνήμες. Σιγά-σιγά, το υποσυνείδητό του αρχίζει να “παίρνει” το μέρος του, και ένας ξεχασμένος κόσμος του παρελθόντος αποκαλύπτεται...

Σκηνοθετικά, η ταινία ήταν σε έναν “υπέροχο δρόμο”. Πολύ καλή ροή, ωραία σύνδεση του μοντέρνου animation με γραφικές τεχνικές από υπολογιστή και απαλές αποχρώσεις μιας “σκοτεινής” πλευράς μαζί με κάτι το ολοκληρωτικά ανθρώπινο. Έδενε απόλυτα με το σενάριο και σε έπαιρνε “από το χέρι” μέχρι το τέλος της. Για να κάνω λίγο πιο κατανοητή την τέχνη του animation που χρησιμοποιήθηκε, θα μπορούσα να σας πω ότι ενώ σκεφτόσουν συνεχώς “Τι μου θυμίζει, τι μου θυμίζει..;”, αποδεικνύεται, τελικά, οτι είναι μοναδικό. Το χρώμα, το σχέδιο, το σκηνικό και ο όλος συνδυασμός τους συνθέτουν ένα όμορφο “ταξίδι”.

Μουσική: σε λίγες ταινίες βρίσκεις αυτό το, ας πούμε, μπαμ..!Τι εννοώ: λες “Δεν γινόταν στην συγκεκριμένη σκηνή να ακουστεί κάτι καλύτερο, πιο συγκινητικό, πιο ευαίσθητο.”. Από το soundtrack μέχρι και την τελευταία νότα της πιο μικρής σε διάρκεια και σημασία σκηνής(που δεν νομίζω να υπάρχει στην περίπτωσή μας), η μουσική σε συναρπάζει και σε αγγίζει.

Θα προσθέσετε μια υπέροχη ταινία στη συλλογή του νου σας, αν επιλέξετε να δείτε το “Waltz with Bashir”. Αλλά το καλύτερο, είναι το ότι θα νιώσετε, με το τέλος της, “κάτι”...Δεν ξέρω τι είναι αυτό το κάτι. Ξέρω, όμως, ότι υπάρχει και είναι κάτι διαφορετικό. Καθίστε ήσυχα και...”ακούστε” το βαλς...

Escape from City 17 Part 1 (2009)

I thought as a movie reviews blog, that we shouldn’t let ourselves just review feature films but also short films at times. Escape from City 17 is a short film based upon the video game series Half Life. It’s the first of 5 short films by the Purchase Brothers on Half Life. The short film is not awards worthy, it even has amateurish acting. But its want any fanboy would want.

The first short film of the Escape from City 17 series is placed right after the events of Half Life 2 with the Citadel’s reactor about to blow up. We follow two rebels as they try to flee the city and avoid the combine. As they try to stay alive we get to see a lot of Half Life trademarks as scientist Kleiner talking in the background or combine soldiers killing rebels and the classic feel of doom growing over the spectator.

With a low budget of 500$ and the Purchase brothers made a little fan film into an epic and mind blowing experience with the money at hand. They have combined live action with video from the video game Half-Life 2 which was graphically enhanced with the method of complicated tracking and rotoscoping. This makes the experience even more delightful.

What Escape from City 17 accomplishes is not groundbreaking to cinema but to extent of low budget effects filmmaking. It shows us that there is talent out there and with the right equipment it doesn’t matter how much money you have but talent. As well as the fact that videogame lore can continue on film or TV format in many successful ways in the right hands.

Any Half Life or by and large videogames fan needs to see this. Its one of those things that make fan boys tingle as they wish that one day they can see their favorite videogame in full glory. But for now we will have to just live with this and soon to be released second part of the short film series so stay tuned.

Prohibition Still Doesn't Work

The violence in Mexico is caused by prohibition, not firearms.

During his visit to Mexico last week, President Obama suggested that Americans are partly to blame for the appalling violence associated with the illegal drug trade there. "The demand for these drugs in the United States is what's helping keep these cartels in business," he said. "This war is being waged with guns purchased not here but in the United States."

Obama is right that the U.S. is largely responsible for the carnage in Mexico, which claimed more than 6,000 lives last year. But the problem is neither the drugs Americans buy nor the guns they sell; it's the war on drugs our government insists the rest of the world help it fight. Instead of acknowledging the failure of drug control, the Obama administration is using it as an excuse for an equally vain attempt at gun control.

"More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States," Obama claimed last week, repeating a favorite factoid of politicians who believe American gun rights endanger our southern neighbor's security. The claim has been parroted by many news organizations, including ABC, which used it in a 2008 story that suggested the sort of policy changes the number is meant to encourage. The story, which asked if "the Second Amendment [is] to blame" for "arming Mexican drug gangs," quoted a federal official who said, "It's virtually impossible to buy a firearm in Mexico as a private citizen, so this country is where they come."

But as Fox News and Factcheck.org have shown, the percentage cited by the president greatly exaggerates the share of guns used by Mexican criminals that were bought in the United States. Fox estimates it's less than a fifth, while Factcheck.org says it may be more like a third.

If the guns used by Mexican drug traffickers do not mainly come from gun dealers in the U.S., where do they come from? Many of the weapons are stolen from the Mexican military and police, often by deserters; some are smuggled over the border from Guatemala; others come from China by way of Africa or Latin America. Russian gun traffickers do a booming business in Mexico.

Given these alternatives, making it harder for Americans to buy guns, in the hope of preventing straw buyers from supplying weapons to smugglers, is not likely to stop Mexican gangsters from arming themselves. The persistence of the drug traffickers' main business, which consists of transporting and selling products that are entirely illegal on both sides of the border, should give pause to those who think they can block the flow of guns to the cartels.

The futile effort to stop Americans from consuming politically incorrect intoxicants is the real source of the violence in Mexico, since prohibition creates a market with artificially high prices and hands it over to criminals. "Because of the enormous profit potential," two senior federal law enforcement officials told the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, "violence has always been associated with the Mexican drug trade as criminal syndicates seek to control this lucrative endeavor."

The more the government cracks down on the black market it created, the more violence it fosters, since intensified enforcement provokes confrontations with the police and encourages fighting between rival gangs over market opportunities created by arrests or deaths. "If the drug effort were failing," an unnamed "senior U.S. official" told The Wall Street Journal in February, "there would be no violence."

Perhaps it is time to redefine failure. Three former Latin American presidents, including Mexico's Ernesto Zedillo, recently noted that "we are farther than ever from the announced goal of eradicating drugs." The attempt to achieve that impossible dream, they observed, has led to "a rise in organized crime," "the corruption of public servants," "the criminalization of politics and the politicization of crime," and "a growth in unacceptable levels of drug-related violence."

Instead of importing Mexico's prohibitionist approach to guns, we should stop exporting our prohibitionist approach to drugs.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

Here is one of the obvious films to be remade. The original is a sci-fi classic, but what I cant understand is how with such a great plot did they mess it up so bad. The film is remade into modern times with ecstatic special effects and an with intelligent script could be have made to be an intriguing and entertaining experience. Sadly we only get effects, clichés and unnecessary mopey moments that drag the film on and on.

The story starts out with some of the nation’s best scientists being called out immediately to face an unknown threat and make a survival plan with imminent catastrophe of earth glooming ahead. Are eyes are on scientist Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connolly) and we see the events through her life and how she’s trying to maintain a simple life with her step son Jacob (Jaden Smith). The threat revealed to be a sphere gently lands in Central Park. Greeted by the scientists and military a being comes out of the sphere in a moment of fear and panic they shoot him. The large robot activates and proceeds to disrupt all electrical systems in the city of New York, including many of the defense systems that the military has mustered in a perimeter around the spaceship. Before it can do any further damage, the being orders it to shut down. The being is later on is revealed to be Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) and his mission is to inform humanity of its end to come for they are the reason the planet is dying and for only way for this planet to survive is for humanity to be extinct. The film then continues with Dr. Benson trying to convince Klaatu to change his mind and give humanity another chance. In the meantime humanity does its best to stop militarily the giant robot Gort who is the weapon. With all this escalation we get some enormous and beautiful special effects. Sad to say all this is not so interesting. We all know what’s going to happen. Sad to say this remake changes only the reason why the aliens came and adds stupid sentimentality.

We are talking of remake here. First we have to ask ourselves was there a point to make this film? Not really. But though being made could it have been better? Yes. Lately there been a trend of environmentally friendly films. Not that’s a bad thing but not necessary when they have it only there so they can play it eco-friendly and never substantiate on it to make a pretty point or two. Here David Koepp is responsible for script which is the film biggest problem. He has had hit and misses for years and here didn’t try to give any meaning to scenes as with environment as ive mentioned or with the important dramatic scenes. For example like Dr. Benson and her stepson, there problem of living with out their loved one. It’s a subplot that drags the film down when we never get to care for a kid who constantly whines and the audience is begging for the alien to kill him.

Let me say a little of what the film does well. The special effects are astounding. Great work on the sphere, and on the robot “Gort”. The effects lift up the film and make it at least a beautiful movie to see. The acting is not bad. Everybody plays there part till what’s needed. Even Keanu Reeves who in my opinion was a good choice for the role but needed more lines. Yes it’s cool for Klaatu to be enigmatic and mysterious but when he needs to talk let him the original did why cant the remake. There were moments where it was needed for him to connect with his new environment. In the original they accomplished that with the kid. The remake instead lets a subplot take more time then its more interesting leading character.

Let me just say this film didn’t make me stand still. As with so many other films there was no need for a remake on this one. The original is a sci-fi classic and the remake is just a special effects film that throws cute rhetoric about the environment so it can be meaningful even though it was made for name value recognition to make bank. What a wonderful place Hollywood is where every 50 years you can see the same film again and again with new special effects.

Αφού είδα το αργεντίνικο “Leonera”, είπα να παραμείνω στο ίδιο κλίμα και να δω άλλη μια ταινία από την Λατινική Αμερική. Διάβασα κάποια βιογραφικά στοιχεία για την σκηνοθέτη και, ειλικρινά, περίμενα ένα αριστούργημα. Η κατάσταση, όμως, δεν ήταν ανάλογη…Το “La Rabia” με έκανε να προσέχω στην οθόνη όλο και λιγότερο. Δεν ξέρω τι έφταιξε- ή μάλλον ξέρω, αλλά θα το αναφέρω πιο κάτω..!- αλλά η ταινία ήταν, πραγματικά, απογοητευτική.

Τα πράγματα έχουν ως εξής:

Δύο οικογένειες ζουν σε έναν απέραντο αγρό (Πάμπας) της Αργεντινής. Η ζωή τους δεν παρουσιάζει σκαμπανεβάσματα, μέχρι που ο Πιντσόν προσβάλλει πολύ άσχημα την μουγκή κόρη του Πόλντο, και έτσι ο δεύτερος τον διώχνει από το σπίτι του και, παράλληλα, διακόπτει τις σχέσεις του μαζί του. Το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα, όμως, δημιουργείται όταν ο Πόλντο μαθαίνει, μέσα από της ζωγραφιές της κόρης του, για τον κρυφό δεσμό της γυναίκας του με τον Πιντσόν…

Σας είχα υποσχεθεί ότι θα ανέφερα τα στοιχεία της ταινίας που με κράτησαν «σε απόσταση» από αυτή. Λοιπόν, έχουμε και λέμε:

Όλοι μας, νομίζω, θα ήμασταν ικανοποιημένοι με ένα λιτό σενάριο. Αυτό, όμως, προϋποθέτει και την απαραίτητη περιεκτικότητα και δύναμη για να σε διεγείρει και να σε καθηλώσει. Αυτό έλειπε από την ταινία. Τίποτα ιδιαίτερο σαν ιστορία, όσο βαθιά και αν το έψαξα. Το κύριο μήνυμα που θέλει να περάσει( που, εν τη αύτη περιπτώσει, είναι το πώς «έχει το θέμα» όταν η βία των ενηλίκων προβάλλεται μέσα από παιδικά μάτια) χάνεται μέσα σε εκτενέστατα κενά σιωπής και αρκετές σκηνές sex που δεν βοηθούσαν ουσιαστικά την ροή της υπόθεσης.

Ένας παράγοντας που θα μπορούσε να γλιτώσει την ταινία από τη δυσμενή της θέση( από πλευράς αποδοχής του κοινού..!), είναι η σκηνοθεσία σε κάποια σημεία. Πολλά υπέροχα πλάνα και εκπληκτικό animation που παρεμβάλλεται στο τέλος κάποιων σκηνών, έπαιζαν σημαντικό ρόλο. Παρόλα αυτά, το φιλμ παραμένει “αμαυρωμένο”. Έντονη σκληρότητα σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις(αναφορικά με τη “μεταχείριση” κάποιων ζώων-μας προειδοποιεί και στην εισαγωγή του) που δεν προσεγγίζει όπως θα έπρεπε την πραγματικότητα και δεν συμβάλλει ουσιαστικά στον σκοπό της ταινίας ήταν κάποια από τα πολλά αρνητικά.

Άλλος ένας αποτρεπτικός παράγοντας είναι η ηθοποιία. Πολύ άστατη...Κάποιες φορές αρκετά καλή και επαγγελματική, κάποιες άλλες τελείως απαίδευτη και,δικαίως,κατακριτέα. Ένιωθες ότι η σκηνοθέτης βιαζόταν να τελειώσει την ταινία και “πίεζε” τους υπόλοιπους ενεργούς παράγοντες γι' αυτό. Κρίμα και πάλι κρίμα...Μια ανάσα σε όλο αυτό το concept ήταν η αρκετά καλή υποκριτική ικανότητα των παιδιών. (Ευτυχώς να λέμε...)

Αν κάτι από τα παραπάνω σας κέντρισε το ενδιαφέρον, δείτε την ταινία. Η γνώμη μου είναι είτε με ενοικίαση είτε με άλλους τρόπους. Θα είναι κρίμα να ξοδέψετε χρήματα αλλά και ένα ωραίο βράδυ σας για να την παρακολουθήσετε στο cinema. Δεν θα ευχηθώ καλή προβολή, αλλά καλό κουράγιο και...με τη νίκη..!

Military resurrects deadly flu virus

AUSTIN — The US military is attempting to resurrect the influenza virus that killed up to 40 million people in 1918. Several genes of the extraordinarily lethal “Spanish flu” have been isolated and introduced into contemporary flu strains. The new strain has proved to be lethal for mice, while the contemporary flu it was made from had hardly any effect.

The Spanish flu was highly infectious and killed a very high percentage of those infected, including many younger people. It caused life expectancy in the US in 1918 to drop by 10 years.

Despite the very dangerous nature of the 1918 virus, efforts to reconstruct it began in the mid-1990s, when Dr Jeffrey Taubenberger from the US Armed Forces Institute of Pathology succeeded in recovering and sequencing fragments of the viral RNA from preserved tissues of 1918 victims.

After partially unravelling the genetic sequence of the virus, the scientists went a step further and succeeded in creating a live virus containing two 1918 genes that proved to be very lethal in animal experiments.

A resuscitation of the Spanish flu is neither necessary nor warranted from a public health point of view. Allegedly, the recent experiments sought to test the efficacy of existing antiviral drugs on the 1918 construct. But there is would be no need for antiviral drugs against the 1918 strain if it was not recreated in the first place. “It simply does not make any scientific sense to create a new threat just to develop new countermeasures against it”, said Jan van Aken, a biologist with the anti-biological weapon group, the Sunshine Project. “This particularly dangerous eradicated strain could wreak havoc if released, deliberately or accidentally.”

Construction of new maximum security (BSL-4) laboratories for “bio-defence” research has been justified by Washington in part by citing the potential of the Spanish flu as a biological weapon. Influenza usually requires a low level of containment; but when scientists begin recombining virulence-related genes, the danger dramatically increases. The University of Texas Medical Branch's BSL-4 plans influenza “gene reassortment” experiments in maximum containment.

“This kind of research is creating a vicious circle and could prompt a race by bio-defence scientists to genetically engineer unthinkable diseases”, said Edward Hammond from the Sunshine Project.

“If Taubenberger worked in a Chinese, Russian or Iranian laboratory, his work might well be seen as the `smoking gun' of an offensive bio-warfare program”, noted van Aken.

Naruto's Rival New Collection

Hi.. All Narutofans in the world, we are sorry for making you all waiting our new post. Its because since Naruto's update becoming slow, we didn't have much new idea, please forgive us. Ok, back again to this post. Actually, I ever post theme like this, but this theme was so favorite so I tried to make sequel from my previous post Naruto-Sasuke (Friend and Rival) but this time not only between Naruto and Sasuke.. There is another one between them, who is he/she? His name is Pain.

First Wallpaper is about Naruto and Pain battle, as we know both of them have the ultimate jutsu. Naruto with Rasen Shuriken and Pain with Chibaku Tensei. They create a great battle when Pain attacked Konoha by him self alone. Only one person could save Konoha from Pain, NARUTO, at that time Naruto has being trained in Frog Mode to mastered Sage Chakra as well. When Naruto's came, Pain has been finished destroy Konoha. Its caused a lot of pain for Naruto.
Fortunately, Naruto could able to controlled his pain as well and defeat Pain with his new power.

Their battle was very unique, even they are enemy there was something which was made them connected each other. In middle and last of battle, they make important conversation which will determined the future of the ninja's world.

See, am I right? Naruto's heart make him different from the other ninjas, his feeling about bond, friendship, chain of hatred and love make him become special ninja. But he is able to become like this because there is someone which always support him become stronger and confidence with his feeling. Sasuke, is the only one person which is support him undirectly to be like that. Supposely, Sasuke also becoming more stronger and believed about his new faith because of Naruto. I miss them their battle, with their new power like now who will be the winner?

When most of them decided to kill her and escape Orochimaru, Guren, without hesitation, kills them instantly with her crystal jutsu. The remaining henchmen, Rinji, Gozu, Kigiri, Kiho and Nurari, instantly decided to follow her without question. After they jioned her, Guren left the members at strange ruins as she escorted Yukimaru the Spirit Lake. Not long after, members Rinji and Gozu discover Kakashi and Team Kurenai following them.

Unified Conspiracy Theory

I've been watching too many video's about 2012, the Illuminati, empty detention camps and hundreds of thousands of coffins in Atlanta.

There were things that some conspiracy sites were saying that didn't make sense to me.
So I came up with a unified theory.

The government knows that there is a comet or something headed towards the earth. It will arrive in December of 2012. The detention camps are for the people that are going to raise hell because they don't get to go underground, literally. Certain people will get to go to safety, deep below the surface of the earth. As for coffins in Atlanta...
