More Best Picture Nominees..
AMPAS announcement of change of policy from 5 Best Picture nominees to 10 with the 82nd Academy Awards that will be in February 2010.
"Having 10 Best Picture nominees is going allow Academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories but have been squeezed out of the race for the top prize," said Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Its really weird how the academy is acting right now. Year after year there is always uprising by fans about their choice of nominated films in various categories. But the choice to put more nominations seems as push for people just to stop bitching that their film did not get nominated and for the extra films now to get more publicity/money. I think this unnecessary and the Academy should just pick better and more diverse films in there many categories . Also I have to mention the problem of the voters. Many of the voters are old and out of touch with some films that come out, either they be comic book films like The Dark Knight or let they be a dramatic tale of two men in Brokeback Mountain. Other things have to happen first. But anyway no harm done with this change. Now with 10 films competing betting companies will have a blast I guess and this will give a little smile on the face of many fans for them to have their favorite movie on the special Best Picture list.
